The Fool He Made Me
"You're mad at me, so you ran off? To get back at me, you're hanging with a lowlife like him?"
His venomous words got under my skin. I snapped, "Shut up!"
Taking a deep breath, I said firmly, "You're the real lowlife here."
I threw his poison back at him, and it felt like reclaiming a piece of myself. "Don't call me again. We're done."
I hung up, blocked the number, and turned to Stanley with a sheepish smile. "Sorry about that."
He grinned, winking. "Treat me to dinner, and we'll call it even."
