Isaac asked her out the next week. Mind back at the corridor, I rushed my pace and then quickly turned into the lab area. My destination was just a few feet ahead, I knew because I had already come here a couple of times. Or maybe just one. A nauseous feeling washed over me and suddenly the corridor seemed to narrow and lengthen before my eyes. The door appeared to be more and more distant and smaller, and a sensation of vertigo started to take control over my body. The words that I had just read minutes ago wandering again inside my head. Work together. Great collaboration. Oh, God.

A bar staff had just walked out of the room and through the door, I saw Mason clinging to a woman I had not seen before. "Opal, are you there?" I heard Lily ask. But the room inside reminded noisy. The wolves inside were one of the best hunters in the pack. I did not believe they did not know I was outside. "Your future mate is coming to get you soon Mason. You should let Diane go," one of the men inside said.

Maya and Lily both nodded, determination shining in their eyes. “Alright,” Graham said, snapping his toolkit shut. “Fastest route to the lab is the lower east hallway. Less traffic. Fewer dorms. If we time it right, we’ll avoid security bots and whatever that thing is.” “I’m checking the surveillance grid,” Liam said, tapping on his smartwatch. “Security’s busy around the west wing. That gives us a five-minute window. No more.” Everyone started to gather what they needed. Graham packed his drone controller and toolkit into a slim shoulder bag. Lucas checked the flashlight, clicked it on and off. Liam pocketed a small combat pen—just in case.

But maybe there is another way out from here. I stepped closer, careful not to make a sound, and peeked inside. What I saw made my blood run cold. I clamped a hand over my mouth to stop myself from screaming. My knees went weak, and I had to lean against the doorframe just to stay standing. It was a lab room. Long, wide, filled with bright white light and the smell of chemicals and something rotten. And all around the room—lining the walls, standing in rows—were big glass capsules, tall as a person. Each one was filled with thick, cloudy liquid. And inside every single one… was a creature.

"…I would end up like them." Scarlett's chest tightened painfully. This girl had lived in fear every day. No wonder she had believed Evelyn. Scarlett squeezed her hand softly. "She can't hurt you anymore." Luna looked at her for a long moment. Then gave the faintest nod. The elevator doors opened. Scarlett's breath caught. The central lab was massive. Glass walls. Rows of pods. At least twelve. Each containing sleeping figures. Teenagers. Young adults. Connected to wires and monitors.

My mind raced, and I leaned my head against the door, heat sparking in my temples. They would be everywhere—on every floor, every private ward, in the parking lot…we had to find another exit. Then a thought struck me. Lily and I used to escape through the laundry room whenever she needed fresh air, and she never got caught. “We can go through the laundry room. It should have an exit.” Ledger stared at me like I was insane. “Kane, there are no exits in the fucking laundry room…where would we escape from? The chute?”

Closing his eyes, he awaited for his death but he suddenly heard the man groan in pain and hearing Helena's voice surprised him and when he opened his eyes, the man was staggering as something Helena threw at him got into his eyes. The chapter opens moments after Chapter 32 ends. Alarms suddenly blare throughout the underground laboratory. Red emergency lights flash across the walls as a computerized voice repeats: “Unauthorized access detected. Initiating containment protocol.” Steel security doors begin closing one after another. Adrian grabs Journal VIII while Elaine quickly photographs several research files with her phone. Lily spots a maintenance tunnel on an old blueprint and leads them toward it just before the main exit seals shut. As they escape into the rain, Adrian realizes someone deliberately allowed them to find the laboratory—and to take Journal VIII.

I was laying on the cold autopsy table. It took me only few seconds to figure out that l was in a lab. The scent of sterile equipments and bleach was strong in the room. Instead of opening up my eyes to look around my surroundings, l kept them closed. I didn’t want these people to know that I was awake. I didn’t want to be knocked off again, this was the only time l had to think of the way l was going to escape from them. Holding my breath, l willed my limbs to remain still as I imitated death. It was not hard because the rest of me was still numb under the effects of their drugs. I couldn’t feel my legs mostly but I could move my eyes.
