That's all. I didn't want to eat it but she assured me that it tasted good. I saw the pleading in her eyes, so, I agreed. And the smile she flashed made my heart skip a beat. I never saw her smile at me before. When I tasted the first spoonful of soup, I was stunned because the soup was so delicious. It surely didn't taste like any other soup for sick people. I instantly felt hungry and finished the soup hurriedly. When she asked me if I wanted more, I got embarrassed, she was standing there the whole time watching me eat hurriedly. But I couldn't say no as the soup was very tasty and I wanted to eat more. She went out to bring more soup.

“Why don’t we give it a try?” Her face lit up immediately. “Really? Yes.” Two minutes later, we were each holding a cone that looked like it had lost a fight with common sense—golden, uneven, dripping slightly at the edges. She took a tentative bite. Paused. I braced myself. “That bad?” She chewed thoughtfully. Then her eyes widened. “Okay. I hate that I like this.” I laughed and took a bite myself. The texture was strange, the flavors unexpected—but somehow it worked. “It… grows on you,” I admitted. “Against all logic.”

After the first bite, I knew I was in love. “It’s like a blessing. Like you were touched by Midas. You would be the luckiest girl alive.” “If I were touched by Midas, wouldn’t that turn me to gold? That then would kill me?” I asked as I took another bite. Cora rolled her eyes and gave me an exacerbated sigh. “You’re missing the point. You would get to go out with one of the hottest guys on campus.”

It knocked against my chest so hard with excitement I was sure she’d hear it. It was better than the first time. Softer, sweeter, and without much haste. It started out as just a way to keep her from talking and ended up being so much more. Inexperienced me, thought tasting her went beyond imagination.
