He took a deep breath, then pushed the door open. Mama was sitting up in bed, her eyes bright but her expression distant. She turned as the family entered, her gaze flickering over each of them before landing on Bala. For a moment, there was silence. Then Mama’s face lit up, her voice trembling with emotion. “Bala? Bala, it’s you! What are you doing here?”
