Menolak Interview

Normal is overrated; that’s what my mom always said. My mom didn’t know the half of it. For 23 years, I thought my biggest problem was being an adopted child of a single mom in a tiny house, then I burst into flames. My first thought was mental breakdown, but that didn’t explain the fact that real flames were put out by real firefighters, so I fled to the city. The plan had been to check myself into a mental hospital, but I’d been too afraid, so I looked for a temporary job while I worked up the courage. My first interview is where things really went off the deep end. I found myself submerged in a world of monsters, and I was one of them. By my 24th birthday, I would supposedly be set into my immortality, with supernatural powers and all. With not one, but two handsome immortals watching out for me, hatred and hostility still lurked around every corner.

The day my ex finally made it big, the doctor told me I had less than three months to live. On TV, a reporter was interviewing James Larson. “Mr. Larson, what drove you to success?” James chuckled, but his eyes were misty. “The biggest push? Probably when I was diagnosed with kidney disease eight years ago, and my ex walked out on me.” “I’m grateful she didn’t marry me. That was the wake-up call I needed.” After the interview, he called. “Amelia Simmons, I made it. Do you regret it now?” I rested a hand on the spot where my kidney used to be and let out a bitter laugh. “I do. And I have cancer now. Happy?” James sounded satisfied. “Serves you right.” He never knew—I got cancer because I gave him my kidney all those years ago.

But my husband Alexander brought his young adopted sister Chloe to the interview, saying, "My success today is all thanks to my adopted sister." Even my own children looked down on me, calling me common and crude housewife. They had formed an alliance with his ever-present "auntie," the woman who seemed to think she was the true lady of the house. I signed the divorce papers and walked away, leaving them to become the "perfect family" they clearly wanted. But that when the family panicked…

Saat aku mengira promosi itu sudah gagal, dia justru membawaku yang berpakaian minim ke jalan raya yang ramai dengan mobil lalu-lalang. "Kita lakukan saja di sini," ujarnya.

“Please, Sayang, mohon lakukan, Tante benar-benar sudah tidak tahan,” rengek Tante Liana dengan ekspresi wajah begitu sayu. Wanita itu sangat gelisah, menantang Bara untuk berbuat lebih jauh lagi. “Iya, Tan, saya juga merasakan keinginan yang sama. Saya ingin mala mini membuat Tante benar-benar bahagia,” sahut Bara dengan suaranya yang sudah bergetar karena menahan gejolak bir*hinya. Ia adalah singa jantan muda yang pantang menolak untuk bertarung.
