The cold hit me like a slap to the face, but I didn’t slow down. Mikey was already being loaded into a black SUV by one of Rachel’s men. "Oliver, the car!" I shouted, pointing toward the vehicle at the far end of the lot. Oliver sprinted ahead, moving faster than I thought possible. He reached the SUV just as the door slammed shut, yanking it open before the driver could pull away. With one swift motion, he pulled Mikey out and cradled him protectively, glaring at the henchman, who looked as if he was about to protest.

Now is the time Ava! Did I just get possessed by my fucking self esteem! I couldn’t believe my own self after that moment. It was like Avie’s body finally succumbed to my soul’s alliance treaty. Within a split second, the puck was right on my stick. I was surrounded with Killian’s team jerks, those crazy twins found their way to me. Now was time for me to show them what crazy feels like. I pretended to give in to their stunt but as one of them attempted to throw me off balance, I raised my skateboard up, flipped midair and landed a few steps away. I wasn’t certain how I did it with my big body, but I literally flew, goddammit!

He asked with that annoying, beautiful, and very attractive smirk on his face. I scoffed, “Really? That's all you heard?” I shook my head, “No, I don’t care about you. But if you’re living here in Midwick, this witch is a danger to us all.” He picked up the shovel and began digging, “Don't worry about that, darling. I'll protect you.”

Because he was the only human who was insane and trying to heal. Mike first appeared to have a psychopathic streak when he was in junior high school. At that time, Mike stabbed a classmate using a sharpened pencil, and the victim died. Mike was even detained in a juvenile prison that only held Mike for a week. After that, Mike was taken to a psychiatrist to do a series of treatments; unfortunately, instead of increasing, Mike's body was out of control.

They bought the story so far. I played intense, purposely showing off. Skated faster, took risks. Stole the puck in our zone, broke out quick. Passed to Marcus but got it right back. I faked a shot, pulled it back, and sniped one top shelf. Goal! The arena exploded. I pumped my fist, looking straight up at Jeffery. He smiled quickly but tried hiding it behind his hand. My heart soared. Yeah, that one was for you.

“Okee dokee. Off we go, then.” As Mick leaves the parking lot, I pull out a Slim Jim and dangle it in front of his face. It stays stiffly out in front of his nose for a few seconds but then starts to bow down, going limp in my hand. I bounce it a few times for effect and it taps his nose. “Want one?” He takes it from me, smiling just before he rips off a big chunk with his teeth. “Don’t mind if I do.”

Mike felt ridiculous scratching a leafy vine as thick as his wrist, but the plant seemed to like it. Mike grabbed a pair of orange sodas from the fridge and some plated sandwiches he had made earlier. Walking out front, he approached the goblin from behind. She was bent over, trying to get a stubborn board to lay where she wanted it. He gave her butt a playful slap, which caused her to drop the board on the deck with a clatter.

The skates were Bauer Vapor Hyperlites. Second pair. Because apparently the first pair Caleb bought weren't the right fit for Miles's "evolving stride" – his words, delivered to my mother over the phone with the casual authority of someone who'd appointed himself my brother's personal development coach.

At three or four o'clock in the afternoon, the streets of Maple Wood were very quiet. In a dark gray casual clothes, Mia has a big hoodie covering her head and face. She steps on a skateboard and slides lightly into the community street. She disguises herself as a leisurely pedestrian, skateboarding and looking at the scenery, as if she just came out of the neighborhood next door to play for a while and accidentally wandered here. But in fact, she had a clear goal - turning right from the second fork in the main street, and the penultimate house was Clint Wood's home.

This guy looks like he only eats at five-star restaurants that serve a three-course meal. My heart sped up at the sight of him. A square roller reversible buckle belt adorned his navy-blue chinos and matched his leather shoes that were cleaner than the sneakers I currently had on. This man is divine to look at. Mikey gave me a deadpan look. Asking me a rhetorical question, “Why would someone attack you when while the sun is still out,” waving his hand up to the sky, then around us, “and people around you.”
