I finally swore under my breath, tossed the book back onto the shelf and wandered around the small little bookstore some more, not really thinking anything in particular, letting my mind drift . And in an attempt to get back my normalcy and my focus, I had been going to the library for the past few days. There was no fighting it, he had disrupted my mind. On one particularly quiet day I couldn't sit still thinking about him and wound up closing the book I had taken off the shelf in the local library that was close to my apartment. I stood up taking in the mostly empty space and moved around aimlessly with no mental compass lodged in my brain of which section to go.

Instead, I began to move—restless, slow steps across the library floor, my fingers trailing over the spines of ancient volumes as if the names etched into them might offer something—perspective, clarity, a distraction. One book wobbled under my hand. I caught it before it fell, hugging it to my chest like it might steady the erratic beat of my heart. I didn’t even look at the title. On impulse, I walked it over to the nearest table, cracked it open, and stared at the page without reading. The words didn’t land. They blurred at the edges, a swirl of ink and nothing. Fireworks exploded in her mind as dizziness assailed her. One at a time, his hands moved from her shoulders as they slipped around her back, pressing her more intimately against him. I sigh, shaking my head and refocusing on the book in front of me. It's a mystery novel I picked out for myself earlier today and I can' t help but to spend quite a bit of time staring at the words printed in large bold letters. I can't concentrate on reading though, my mind keeps wandering back to the memories of that night. I can't stop thinking about it or replaying those images in my head over and over again. I feel a lump forming in my throat as I recall the first time we touched after so many years. How scared I was back then, scared of what would happen, what I would do.

Her hand flattened against the page. The library was forgotten by her, not literally, but because her mind was now concentrated on herself, and she was drawn away to another place altogether.
