"Are you the one with the truck?" He opened one eye. "Sometimes." She showed him a notebook with her name scribbled big on the cover. "Then take that. It's my map." Caelan knelt to examine it. Rivers, bridges, lined through with dotted lines, trees that were no longer standing. "You memorized all of this?" "I sketched it so people won't get lost again." He creased the page like a paper. Tapping on the notification the first thing I see is a picture of the rolled out scroll, zooming in on the picture to make the image bigger and wider I frown at the weird graphics drawn on an old, brown coloured paper. The map, as they call it, is nothing but a graphic image of red X's and black median strips (dashes) that curves in various directions. This isn’t a game of x marks the spot, so what the hell is this supposed to be? Lifting the walkie-talkie, I mumble into the radio. “What the hell is this, it’s just a bunch of scribbling.”

She said with an excited smile, “Bingo! I locked their precise coordinates!” Hearing this, Fennel and Philip leaned over and stared at the computer screen. The coordinates displayed were converted into geographic locations, which was Moore City in the northwest. Moore City in the Northwest? Philip frowned and asked, “Is there such a city?” Fennel looked at the coordinates gravely and said coldly, “Yes! It’s a city that doesn’t show up on the map. It’s an area that’s totally ungoverned and uncontrolled! “Moore City in the northwest is also called Mystic City!”

Michael answered from the driver’s seat. “You actually been there?” “Uh . . . ” “That’s what I done figured.” “Hey, I got a road atlas.” He hefted up a massive spiral notebook filled with the finest AAA maps. “It’s current. Came out last year. I know where I’m going.”

It's intriguing. It's black and rugged—a Toughbook I think—something very similar to those in . . . War movies? Ugh, what the heck, Mia? I chuckle at my stupidity. Maybe it's just an old version of Panasonic, I decide. Prying more attentively I end up waking the screen. Oh boy! On the bright display a red dot keeps beaming inside a greenish map, some kind of satellite GPS, I suppose, for it's definitely not the usual G****e maps I'm used to.

“The maps show nothing at that location.” “The maps are wrong,” I smirk as I turn the key and watch the transport come to life beneath my fingertips. It’s one of our few larger pods, big enough for everyone if need be: Ursa, Orion, Kora, Atremi, Primus, and, gods willing, Carnelia. “The location isn’t present on our maps, but trust me, it’s real.”

When the map appears on the screen, my eyes quickly pan over the blank and almost desolate picture until I see an icon indicating a road. "There's a road right here," I tell Sebastian. He looks at it with strict inventiveness in his eyes, hovering his dirt-covered index finger over the screen.
