His warriors fighting below. And above them— the monster. The creature filled half the sky. Darkness poured from its body. Every time the King struck it— blue light exploded. Every time the monster attacked— entire buildings disappeared. Then suddenly— the King leaped. Actually leaped. High into the air. His spear pierced the monster's chest. The creature screamed. The entire island shook. Then Peanut cheered. Immediately. "Go king!" Honestly? Everyone felt the same. Then the monster swatted the King away.

” They break out in a roar — sharp, wild as a storm break free “They say exile breaks a wolf. But we know better. Exile builds the kind of strength the sun cannot see — the kind born in hunger, in frost, in blood — the kind that never asks for permission.” The chorus rises again, louder, vibrating through the clearing. “If they call us monsters,” I raise my voice, “then let us be monsters with purpose.” A thunderous cry answers — “Yea! A-a-a!” “If they call us forsaken, then let them see what the forsaken can do when the moon answers our call.”

The scent of men who had already used their toys. My thighs pressed together out of instinct, trembling as I thought of what was coming. Of the men they said came here. The Monsters of the North.
