After I shower, I opt for a wife beater and a pair of loose-fitting shorts. My right forearm is still scabbed over from my latest tattoo. Every time I look at it, I am proud that I now have my pack displayed on my body. It had taken me a while to draw out the design just the way I wanted it to look. It depicts a full moon coming up over a hazy horizon. A wolf's head with bright red eyes is baring its teeth as it emerges forth from the moons' surface.

I couldn’t even think. My eyes burned with tears, and I felt them falling, but I couldn’t even muster up the strength to cry as I sat down against the painting and looked up at the ceiling. My phone chimed again as I looked up at the mural of the phases of the moon. The mural started to darken and change in the three main panels. The red moon had once been bright, almost pink, but it turned as dark and as red as blood and cast an eery red light over me. The mural of the new moon had cracked, destroying the seamless image of a dark night. It felt oddly fitting since he was a son of the New Moon Pack.

I said with a pout, as he took a picture of my neck. "I can kind of sense what you’re thinking." He smirked. I frowned. "That’s a wolfie thing?" "Kind of." He winked as he held the phone out to me. I took it, my heart skipping a beat as I looked at the screen nervously. It was not what I was expecting. There was a full moon, surrounded by flames. One could mistake it for the sun, but it was clearly a moon. In front of the moon was a silhouette of a wolf, its fur a deep navy black, littered with stars and a small moon… just like the night sky…

How fucking lame is that? ‘The mobile,’ Ares grumbles from the abyss. His reminder brings my attention to the hanging structure above my son’s bed. Walking closer, I gaze at it. It is beautifully crafted. The tent covering the moon is a beautiful navy blue, constellations’ decorate the top, reminding me of the night sky. Underneath sits the triple moon. Upon closer inspection, a key sits in the full moon at the center. Wolves circle the moon, their howling and running figures hanging by fish wire.

He wasn’t looking at the mug anymore. He was looking at Adrian. At the fact that Adrian had brought it to the table. At the fact that he was actually using it. “What is that supposed to be?” he asked flatly, nodding toward the painted shape. Before I could die of embarrassment, Adrian answered for me. “A crescent moon.” Kieran let out a short breath. “That’s the moon?” “It is if you’re not an idiot.” The whole room changed.

Maybe the gods think I look pretty this way. A gasp escaped me as I turned my neck to get a better view. My fingertips brushed against a beautifully intricate design that adorned my skin. It was a crescent moon, its delicate details awash in an array of enchanting blue shades. Stars, each unique, encircled the moon like constellations painted by a celestial artist. At the edge of the crescent, a pitch-black wolf stood, head thrown back as it howled at the moon. My mate’s initials are written below the mark.

That thing should be celebrated, but her mother saw it in a different light. “Maybe your mother was just surprised by the news. Let’s wait until everything sinks into her.” He planted a kiss on her temple and pulled away. Sebastian cupped her cheeks. “This is our miracle, my love. And no matter what happens, we will celebrate her life….” Irma nodded her head and kissed him on the lips. “WHY is the moon like that, Mother?” Luna asked as she looked up into the sky. A smile curved on Irma’s lips as she watched her child staring at the moon with so much fascination in her eyes.

My chest tightens. “Then what?” The clearing feels like it leans in. Not physically. Something else. “Something older,” he says. The word presses against me. Older. “How old?” I push. His gaze sharpens slightly. “Older than Luna Queens.” My stomach drops a little. “Older than wolves.” The air feels heavier now. Not thick. Aware. I don’t realize I’ve stopped breathing properly until I force air back into my lungs. “The Moon,” I say slowly. “You’re saying it’s stronger than the Moon?”

I finally asked, with my voice sounding like thunder. “Rory, we'll have to fight back. " We have to gather allies who are willing to fight and break out of the darkness that is trying to overwhelm us, she said in a fierce tone, as the fire in her eyes lit up at that instant. “However, you must take this along..." She immediately put her hands in her pocket, and brought out a mysterious-looking stone. The surface looked very smooth and clear, it looked very crystal clear. In the center, I recognized a painting from one of the pack meetings. It symbolized an emblem of both royalty and classical aura.
