GUILTY DEVOTION
Nicholas leaned back, his eyes burning with anger.
All this time and those nights. He had been grieving a lie.
For a long time, neither of them spoke. Finally, Charles said, “Nick… what are you going to do?”
Nicholas looked down at the photo of Cassie he still kept on his desk. She was smiling in it. She was bright, free, and alive.
“I’m going to find her,” he said softly. “I don’t care how long it takes. I’ll find her.”

Later that night, after Charles left, Nicholas sat alone in his office again. He pulled open his drawer, reaching for a pen, and froze. At the bottom, beneath old papers and forgotten notes, lay a soft, faded scarf.
