Give in. I closed my eyes and felt him deep inside me. I felt him clawing away in there, and I let go, dropping whatever barrier was holding him back. A ring of fire spread across my eyes. My entire body was a light yellow fire with bright orange and red tips. Wings erupted from my shoulder blades, spreading wide beside me. They were covered in orange and deep red flames. Every step I took turned the sand on the shore into glass.

He was just standing in the sunlight, and Ravi squinted as he saw something gleaming in the man's hand. Ravi focused his vision further to ensure that the object the man held wasn't what he thought it was. The man's hand moved, still gazing, and Ravi's eyes widened when he could see clearly. Ravi froze, subconsciously gripping Raymond's wrist tightly. He saw a shimmering sword smeared with red liquid that was undoubtedly blood. But it didn't end there. Ravi froze further without realizing it, tightening his hold on Raymond's wrist as he observed the man's wings, which were white and almost identical to Raymond's. The wings flapped, and he flew away somewhere.

Chris and Hendrick spread their arms, concentrating on the door. Slowly, a forcefield entwined with silvery blue and serene blue emerged, enveloping the edges of the door. Once the door was fully sealed within their forcefield, they slammed their palms together. A sharp clap rang out, instantly swallowed by the explosive boom of the door being blasted open. Night Wing, Night Rider, and Night Blade didn’t waste a second; they propelled themselves toward the centre. Even before they reached the centre, they felt an overwhelming suction force pulling at them… but the moment it neared them, the force ricocheted away from their capes.

I can see the faint outline of what looks like wings spread behind her. Wings of fire that seem to take the shape of a heart… A piercing scream rips through the air as her power increases tenfold and surges into the sky, emanating in waves around her. I see the swirls of the flames behind her move before I see a tiny part of her left wing snap and shrivel into embers of ash. It’s too blinding to look at, and I’m forced to avert my gaze.

That little motion was my signal to myself and I pulled at my inner fire, calling it into place the second my foot hit the dirt. Flames of brilliant violet burst out all around me, surrounding every piece of silver I had on, as well as the entire sword. This was the reason why I had nothing but plain silver adornments on, because I was using them as place holders for my fire. They were heavy and cold against my skin, giving me precise locations to focus my inner flames on. So now I stood before the audience with purple flames around my ankles and wrists, with more swallowing the small earrings and thin silver threads that were hanging in my hair.

For a second, the ashes around me glow faintly, stirred by a soft gust. They spiral upward, forming the faint outline of wings. Phoenix wings. I blink, and they’re gone. The world feels too still. Too empty. No guards. No scent of wolves. They must have thought there was nothing left to find. No one survives a fire like that. I crawled towards the river. The reflection that greets me isn’t mine.
