I needed to find release, I needed to forget, I needed to do something, anything to make me feel like myself. The distance between the witch and I was slowly closing up. What I was about to do would damn me. A loud growl shook the woods, sending ripples through the lake. I gasped, backing away from the witch as Nolan emerged from the trees. His blue eyes were hard and cold but I did not miss the way they glowed brightly. I had never seen them glow that bright before. Nolan was pissed and I knew exactly why. Aaron stood by Nolan’s side as usual. A loyal guard dog through and through. I was disgusted.

Nolan is quiet when I finish. The line is silent for a while, “No… you still there?” I ask, concerned about the silence. “Yeah. I’m still here. Your mate is human… are you sure?” He asks, rather hesitantly. “Yes. One hundred percent sure. Why?” “No reason. You said he’s famous. Who is he?” “Joshua Logan. Quarterback for the Packers.” I say and I pull the phone away from my ear, knowing what’s coming.

Nolan looked at me like I had just spoken in an alien language. Then he laughed. A low, confident sound. “I’m not leeching,” he said. “I’m the Beta of Wolves-Heaven.” My stomach dropped. Great. So I had just grabbed the Beta… the same Beta rumored to fight beside Merrin like a living weapon… by the collar. I stepped back slowly. Very slowly. But Nolan caught my wrist gently. “What’s wrong?” he asked, leaning in slightly. “You don’t want to fight anymore?” I slapped his hand away instantly.

I knew most of the humans and others that worked on the force, even though I had been a thorn in their side in the past, they tolerated me. "Garret, I need you to check on something for me. What kind of Other runs around with white wings that look dirty, extremely dirty? No, it's not a drunk Angel. No," he paused to stare at my face a minute, "she isn't a demon. At least not on the outside." He paused for a moment and I shot him a nasty look for demon comment. "Ah, okay. I see." He hung up the phone.

"You've got kind eyes... but you've been staring at us like we might sprout horns." The man stepped forward, smoothing his collar. "Forgive me. I'm not used to strangers. My name is Noah. Nigel Senior is my father, and Alpha Nolan is my older brother." Falcon tilted his head, smirking. "And by the looks of you, I can tell you play on my team." Noah smiled warmly. "Yes. I am mated to a man." "Slay," Falcon whispered, then winked. Before anyone could respond, Cameron sniffed the air and raised his brow. "Something smells really good..."

I flick Atlas the finger, he gives me the v’s. The rest of the guys take their turn, Calli is out but Nolan is through. He’s a mean shot and has only missed a few goals over the last games. Shame he isn’t coming to Dallas with Atlas and I. Man, I can’t believe that’s just in a few weeks’ time.

From Nolan's point of view... Earlier that same day, the sun had not yet reached the highest point in the sky when Nolan ran through the forest, the paws of his lupine form touching the soft earth with lethal precision. The wind nipped at his muzzle, carrying with it the scents of the dense, damp forest, but he wasn't running alone. His most loyal friends accompanied him closely: Tiago, his future beta, Fredi, who would take on the role of gamma, and Diana, Fredi's sister, the brown-haired she-wolf with rare white spots that caught everyone's eye.

He didn’t argue. The mark flared bright enough that I saw the light of it against my own skin, and I heard myself make a sound I didn’t recognize, somewhere between a gasp and a cry. The fourth line reached the center of my chest and stopped there, pulsing on its own now, separate from the other three. “Hold on,” Nathan said, picking the phone back up. “I don’t care what I said this morning.” The flare kept climbing. He didn’t hesitate this time. “Neil. Nolan. Now.”

I do not blame him actually, we were never really close in the first place, we had just talked for a while. After some minutes, the other core warriors joined us and we entered the meeting hall together. The Four Alphas were already waiting for us on their seats. "Four Lords, we've captured Evelyn and the spy according to your command." The General got down on one knee to report. The four brothers got down from their seats and walked towards us. The one with the name 'Lincoln' Moved closer to me. "Who sent you?" He asked emotionlessly but I kept mute and stated right at him.
