Raven's POV Rave ran like a bullet before bringing us to a stop behind a tree panting. 'What are we going to do now? Roy is definitely in pursuit. You need to hide our scent,' I said as fear gripped my heart at being found out so soon. 'I can't hide our scent in wolf form. I will shift back now and hide our scent. You have to try your best and get us inside as soon as possible,' Rave said. Rave didn't give me room for argument as she shifted back. I shivered from the night cold air. I was naked and scared witless.

~Zane's POV~ My tongue flicked out, tracing my lower lip as a guttural growl rumbled through my throat. With my head lifted and my gaze locked on the moon, the transformation began in my chest, a grinding compression that forced my ribs to crack and reshape themselves. Collapsing to my knees, I pressed my massive wolfish paws against the ground as the bone beneath the fur contracted. The pain was not the sharp torment of a beastly shift.

“Bring the Black Coast shipment codes, the account access, and every fucking file you stole.” A sob caught painfully in my throat. What the hell were they talking about? “I swear I don’t know anything,” I whispered desperately. “I don’t even know who Ravens is.” One of the men barked out a laugh. “Damn. She really clueless.” “Not our fucking problem,” another muttered. The gun pressed harder into my skin and my breathing immediately turned shaky again. “You hear that, Ravens?” the man said into the phone. “Fourteen hours before we paint the floor with her brains.”

Aspen butted into the conversation, “you can’t tamper with the energy of the land. That is a no-no.” “Are you the one who makes the rule?” Raven asked without glancing at her. “This method will work, Lance. Let’s go to another room to discuss the details. Then, we’ll prepare accordingly. Do not forget that we have to get Kailin’s blood too. Let’s make this as fast as possible, okay?” “Yes, Your Majesty.” Raven scoffed quite loudly and returned her wicked side gaze to Aspen, who was still frowning. “Don’t worry, Aspen,” Raven said, “it will be over soon. You will get the rest you desire soon enough.”

Althea asks when I'm fully dressed and ready. "Convince him I'm there for a date," I reply. "Slip the sedative into his drink then search his room." "And if he sees through you?" "Thea, no one can resist a good pair of these." I gesture to my chest which looks great in the revealing dip of the dress. "He'll be too focused on what my body is doing, he won't notice anything is off," I reassure her. I hope. Shifters have advantages I could never dream of. So, I need to make sure he doesn't see through me.

Gideon knocks on the door before entering the room and I can’t help noticing the sad expression he is wearing. “What’s going on? What’s wrong with Raven?” Liliana asks while looking up into Gideon’s sad blue eyes that are identical to hers. “Raven can’t shift, she just found out she’s pregnant,” Gideon answers making Liliana and I both tense feeling worried about Raven. “She’s what? Is she ok?” Liliana starts getting up for Gideon to place his hand on her shoulder making her sit back down.

“Now.” She didn’t move. I took another step. “Raven, I’m done playing games. Shift. I want to fucking talk to you.” Still, she held her ground. “Don’t test me.” My voice dropped to a low, cold warning. “You think I chased you all the way here to let you skulk in the shadows?” A long growl rolled from her throat. Challenge. “You lied,” I continued. “You’ve been lying.” I saw the flicker in her eyes, the hesitation. Then, slowly, bones began to twist and reshape. Her form collapsed in on itself, folding, contorting. Her breath hitched as she changed, the air thick with tension and heat.

Adrenaline races through my veins at the sight of him. He is monstrous and magnificent. He ducks his head down and licks the palm of my hand, snorts once, and takes off through the trees. “He couldn’t help it. So much rage at Spader, so much emotion that you got hurt, he just…shifted. He’ll run it off, hunt something fast and small. He’ll be better after that,” Raven says.

Snapping back out of his brief daze, Elijah’s thin lips curl while he reaches up to brush a stray strand of hair away from my eyes, appearing sheepish after falling into his staring fit. “Well, that’s the thing. She didn’t actually shift. She sort of hit the half way mark and reversed it before she fully wolfed out,” Raven scrunches her hands into a set of claws descriptively, “-we all saw it. Have you ever heard of a wolf having instant control from the get go? Because I haven’t,” Raven gushes in wonder.

I nodded to her when she hugged me, then whispered to me. "I'd never lie to him, I couldn't hurt him like that, or myself. Love you Axel." "Love you too, remember this when shifting, Raven did it alone for her first shift, scared, alone, with no one to walk her through the pain she felt, you will never be alone, she will never leave your side." She took a deep breath when I saw her eyes flash as she gripped her stomach, the clouds moving letting the moonlight cast its light down on us all when Raven came to her, helping her walk as she went to shift.
