Rotating Bookshelf Tower Novels & Stories

No one asked. I couldn’t let that happen again. Not today, not tomorrow. I was too tired to fight. Too sick to risk it. So I nodded, not trusting my voice, and turned toward the shelf. The wooden thing stood tall in the corner of the room, filled with neat rows of books. Too neat, sometimes. He liked them arranged in a certain way, spines facing the same direction, colors matching, titles lined like soldiers. It wasn’t about books. It was about control.

He smiled slipping his hand into mine and beginning to lead me towards the golden staircase, my steps a little slow as I attempted to climb the steps in the heels I was given. As I reached the very top of the staircase, I couldn’t help the gasp from astonishment which came from my mouth, I thought this place from the bottom level looked intriguing but up closely, it was incredible. The shelves were a dark blue colour with lights placed within the tops of the shelves to illuminate the books stored below. But right in the centre of the shelves of books stood the one which seemed to be on display, it was propped up slightly with its own light illuminating the words.

Just expensive furniture and abstract art that looked chosen to impress rather than express. I passed through the living room, my attention drawn to a large bookshelf covering one wall. The collection impressed me—ancient texts on pack history, rare volumes on wolf magic, modern novels organized by genre rather than author. Many of the books looked unread, their spines uncreased. One leather-bound book caught my eye—its dark cover embossed with strange symbols that resembled no language I recognized. I reached for it, but it refused to budge. Odd. I tried again, pulling harder. The book remained firmly in place, as if glued to the shelf.

I felt rested and calm now, so I got off the bed and started making my way with Romy to the library. When we get there, it looks like a library from a classic black-and-white movie. The bookshelves were built-ins with thick mahogany columns carved between them. The shelves went from the floor to the ceiling, and there were those moveable ladders to get to the higher shelves. At the end of the library was a large fireplace. On each side was a floor-to-ceiling window with dark green curtains that hung from golden rods. There were four very large chairs that looked like they could double as beds, with plush upholstery. They were positioned in twos, with a small table between them to hold drinks

Coming to our senses, we followed the magic sign until it disappeared altogether. *** The library occupied one of the wide towers entirely. “Wow,” Fiona breathed, carefully opening the door and trying not to make any noise. A round spacious room with a spiral staircase in the center from floor to ceiling was filled with books. I have never seen so many volumes, manuscripts and scrolls in one place in my life. They crowded on shelves, on high racks and even on narrow window sills. The shelving shimmered with gold, flickering for a moment and fading again. Magic protection against fires.

It was enough. Rowan moved away from the window. "The back of the cottage opens into thicker forest." Kael shook his head. "Too obvious." "So what's your plan?" Kael's eyes travelled around the room. They stopped at the old bookshelf. "Help me move it." Rowan frowned. "The bookshelf?" "Just push." The two men leaned against the heavy wood. It refused to move at first. Then it scraped across the floor with a deep groan. Behind it was a narrow wooden door.

It was called Room Magma. As he opened the door, the lights flicked open and an abnormally huge room was revealed. Using an inferior spatial magic, Noel fitted all the books that he had gotten from other worlds, making the towering huge bookshelves bigger than before. The shelves were arranged in a semi circle pattern. In the middle of the pattern, a huge shining white orb the size of a monument was placed and a table was put in front of it. Noel went to the table, facing his back to the big orb.

Soon I had begun to take every book off the shelf, shaking the pages, just in case, it was in there. An hour passed and I was almost done with the entire bookshelf, but no sign of the damn card. Where the fuck was it? Another few books and I was on the last one, but that card was nowhere to be found. Did it maybe slip under? I placed another book down before looking at the shelf. It was large, made of solid oak. You could see that the bottom shelf was at least five inches off the ground but there was no panel I could take off. Slowly I tried to move the shelf, cursing when I realised it was bolted to the wall.

A staircase wrapped curved around the length of the room, going up, up, up, with no clear end in sight. Texts both old and new soared through the air on all levels of the library. Some flapped their pages like wings, while others glided on a phantom breeze. A pair of books that appeared to be part of the same series collided with one another. The first then proceeded to chase the second further up the tower before vanishing on the fourth level. Azrael gracefully plopped down on an antique leather sofa and gestured at a group of wooden tables just a few feet away. “Help yourself. Should you need something specific just ask the mansion.”
