I didn’t have the patience for theatrics.
“Go on,” I said, leaning back in my chair. “But whatever it is, make it quick—and make it important.”
Matteo stepped forward with his hands clasped behind his back. His face gave nothing away, but I knew him well enough to see the tension in his shoulders. Whatever he had to say, it wasn’t good.
“Boss, I just got word,” he said, voice low, steady. “Don Fabio is dead.”
The room went silent. The television droned on in the background, but it was just noise now. I maintained my gaze on the screen while Matteo watched me, waiting for a reaction.
