I’m racing through the forest, my heart is beating fast and my breathing is heavy. It’s dark and cold. Suddenly, everything around me becomes eerie. I can see blood dripping from the trees like heavy drops of rain. I try to wipe it away when it falls on my face, but it only smears. I trip over a stump sending my body skidding across the forest floor and I can feel myself losing my focus, but I turn over with the feeling I’m not alone. I feel this beast coming toward me with bloodshot eyes and I open my mouth to scream, but what comes out surprises me. “Malachi,” I whisper, reaching my hand out to touch the wolf’s face when in an instant he snaps his jaws shut around my hand.

‎The dog made a growling sound as it started licking my face. ‎"Everyone keeps leaving. Or hurting me. Or both." Tears pricked my eyes. "I cheated on Dante after ghosting him. Everyone thinks I'm a whore. Everybody hates me. Maybe I should take my life, finish what I started." I paused. "Damn, what the hell is wrong ‎with me." ‎The dog licked my hand. It burrowed closer into my body. ‎I stayed with it until the sun started setting, then reluctantly stood. "I have to go. Class. But I'll be back soon, okay? I promise."

Hectors wolf did not spare it a second of mercy when it snapped its neck then released its body. It turned to me. The stray dog’s blood oozed out of it mouth in long strings. I swallowed hard as it glided towards me in a very intimidating way. I thought it would hurt me so I did the only thing a sane person who was trapped and had nothing else to do could do at a situation like that. I blocked my face with my arms. I was waiting for the attack. Maybe a bite or a scratch, but nothing came. Instead, I felt something slimy and warm on my arm. She flinched when she felt a hot wet tongue lick the hand that she was using to cover her head and she slowly took the hand off her face and what greeted her was a long lick and little bits on her face from Liam's wolf. Liam's guards who had their face turned away in fear of seeing Scarlett get devoured and torn to pieces by Liam's wolf slowly looked back at Liam when instead of screams of pain, they were hearing yapping noises. Their eyes widened in shock when they saw what was happening inside their cage. Seeing that Scarlett was not responding to him but was staring at him wide-eyed, Liam's wolf cocked his head to the side before using his paw to nudge her, as if willing her to play with

Her hand shook as she reached out and gently touched its neck. The dog did not snap or growl, and Jovie's fear ebbed away. She stroked its head, whispering words of comfort. "Big doggy, did the bad people take you too? Don't worry, my daddy will come for us soon. He's like a superhero, super strong. He'll beat up the bad guys and get us out of here..."

I called in pain, but he didn't ask, he stretch his bleeding hand to me. Lick them off. Was he asking me to have his blood again, I have no idea why he asked that of me, if licking every blood off his skin will give him the strength to climb off this place then I will gladly do it. I pulled his arm to lick it. Not there but here. That was when I realized it was the blood coming from his hand, not the worthless blood of those wolves that he had to slay I lower my head and lick off the blood from his wound.

I went to flinch; however, Alexei tightened his grip a little, stopping me “he won’t hurt you” “Isn’t he afraid of us being wolves? I know that a horse’s instinct is to run from predators, and technically, we are” I asked, looking at the animal who put his muzzle on my hand, making me smile. I slowly put my hand on his head, scratching it, my hands shaking despite trying to act confident.

My fingers trembled with fear, but the hound's reaction was unexpected. It didn't recoil or growl, instead, it nuzzled my hand gently, its rough tongue brushing against my soft skin. The fear that had gripped me moments ago began to transform into a mixture of fascination and relief as I realized this formidable hound wasn't here to harm me, but perhaps seeking companionship in the desolate darkness. I slowly reached its fur on his head, slightly brushing it. "A...are y...you Luca?" I stuttered a bit while asking him. It growled softly to answer.

I hope Adam will be okay. Maybe it was just the air but I felt a burst of force on my face. And the crazy thing is that I still haven’t been clawed at which moves me to open my eyes to see what must have happened. To my surprise, there is a hand over my face. And on that hand is the paw of the wolf which has obviously gone through the hand because it was dripping blood right down on my face. Before I could make sense of that, the owner of the hand has pushed the paw away from my face and then quickly hit the wolf with his leg which sends it a distance away from me. At least now I could say I was safe for a while.

"I saw him at the market outside the territory today. He was holding hands with a she-wolf. She had long black hair and was wearing a moon-white dress." I threw the polishing cloth into the basin, splashing water all over my hands. "You saw wrong." "I didn't." Lyra jumped down from the stool. She walked over and looked up into my face. "Mom, cry. Let your wolf cry. It'll make you feel better." Instead of crying, I laughed. "You little pup. You must have been listening to the elder's theatrical tales again, haven't you?" She shook her head and reached out to take my hand. Her palm was so small, her skin so soft.
