Not having a thing to say, I kept quiet in my seat and ate calmly. "Hmmm." She nodded reluctantly and took a sip of wine. "So Mira..." She started but I was quick to cut in. "Mila!" I supplied, and she looked at me questioningly. "My name Ma. It's Mila." "Hmmm, I see." She noted, before she continued. "So Mira, what social class do you belong?" "What?!" I asked caught off guard. I clearly understood what she had asked but her question was...... so.... materialistic! Plus! the fact she had still called me 'Mira', considering my clarification had gotten me.

' Her voice was calm, but I heard the worry underneath, like she was bracing for a storm. 'I can't. It's pulling too hard.' I stopped, gripping the edge of the table, wood rough under my palms. The cottage felt smaller tonight, walls closing in with shadows that danced like ghosts. Outside, the wind whispered through the pines, carrying distant howls that made my skin crawl. Mira's face flashed in my mind—not the protector from the flashback, but twisted, pleading. 'Forgive me, Silas. I had to do it.' Her voice echoed, hollow and desperate, her eyes wet with tears as flames licked at her skirts. Hallucination or memory? The line blurred, and I shook my head, heart pounding.

But she never did. Then there was the secret no one knew. The secret that followed me every single day. The reason I couldn't stand looking into her eyes for too long. Years ago, when Maria was almost old enough for her first shift, our pack healer gave her a rare herbal tonic. It was meant to strengthen a young wolf before it awakened. "And she’s going to use it to kill us. If we don't find, she will use him to take your throne." Ricardo stared at me for a long time. The silence in the room was heavy. Finally, he nodded. "Fine," he whispered. "But once I tell you, there’s no going back. You’ll be part of the secret forever." "I’m already part of it," I said, thinking of the red laser dot on Maria’s chest and the golden eyes in the woods. "I’ve been part of it since the day I stepped into this mirror." Then, to Mira’s utter astonishment, it stood and stepped back, resuming its silent vigil. Mira let out a shaky breath, her heart pounding in her chest. She didn’t know what this thing wanted, but it hadn’t hurt her—yet. “Alright, Sally,” Mira said softly, “you’re officially the weirdest zombie I’ve ever met. And that’s saying something.” She glanced toward the closed doors again, hope flickering faintly in her chest. If she could just find a way to get free… But as she tugged at the ropes binding her wrists, the sound of faint footsteps echoed from somewhere beyond the hall. Mira froze, her pulse quickening.

She glanced back to see her parents fighting valiantly, their magic clashing with the dark energy of their attackers. Milak's elemental fury and Zara's healing light intertwined in a beautiful yet tragic dance of power and sacrifice. But it wasn't enough. Milak fell first, a blast of dark energy striking him down. Everything seemed intact. But the note… The spy wasn’t coming from the outside. They were already here. Inside the warded tent, Mira moved toward the potion cache when she felt it. A shift. A breath that didn’t belong. She spun around—dagger drawn. But she was alone. Or so it seemed. Then her reflection blinked. And smiled. The mimic stepped from the shadows—a perfect copy of Mira, every freckle and line mirrored. But the eyes were wrong. Just a little too dark.
