“They’re just stories people tell themselves to feel something.” The receptionist had given her the heavy brass key with a nervous laugh. “Just… ring the front desk if anything unusual happens.” Sophia unpacked in the lavish suite, admiring the antique four-poster bed, the velvet drapes, and the claw-foot bathtub that overlooked the stormy sea. She showered, slipped into a silky black slip, and settled into bed with a book on cognitive biases, determined to prove once again that the supernatural was nonsense. The lights dimmed on their own at midnight.

“Sustaining. Like photosynthesis for the mind.” Raven stared out the window. The aurora was still visible even at this hour — soft, breathing. For the first time, she felt the weight of something beyond comprehension. “Where’s Sophia?” A pause. “She’s inside it. He rushed towards her, and bumped is shoulder on her, pushinng her sideways. "Argghhhh!" Sophia lost her balance and the books fell from her hands. She was about to fall on the ground, when a strong arm clutched her waist tightly. "Oh Goodness. Thank God, you did not fall." William instantly looked at the girl, whim he had gripped and his breath was taken away. She was perhaps the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Her big grey eyes were looking at him like magic. She had delicate features and a pale skin. Her long golden hair were falling backwards, while her mouth was partly open as if in shock. She too had clutched the prince tightly, as if preventing herself from falling.

“I say, I didn’t have to know you longer than a day to decide I’d go anywhere you wanted to take me. Is that crazy?” “Not in the slightest… now, about that kiss.” Butterflies erupted in Sophie’s stomach as Callum leaned in and kissed her softly. She was so nervous, anyone would have thought she’d never kissed anyone before. As she relaxed into the kiss, she realised that although it wasn’t her first kiss, it was a first… something. She couldn’t quite put her finger on it, but she knew that this was different, that Callum was different to every boy that came before him.

Trisha heard Mrs Perry complain as she glided through shelves teemed with ages-old books before she could be pulled into hours-long conversation with the old lady. She picked up a book from a dilapidated shelf, blew off the dust that had found solace on it's leather covering over the years, and squinted— because of the poor illumination, to see the books name. ‘Wizards Can Do More’ by one of the greatest wizards ever, LP Travis. It was a book she wanted but not one she needed. Hence, she put it back in its spot among other dusty books and walked to another shelf.

Her face broke. “Yes.” Sophie stepped forward. “How old was I?” “Which time?” Sophie flinched. Older Elena immediately corrected herself. “Sorry.” She looked carefully. “In my world, you are thirty-nine.” Sophie stopped. “Alive?” “Yes.” Sophie’s knees nearly gave out. Lucas caught her. The older Elena continued:

"Probably hooked up with some delinquent and had this child in secret!" "Don't you talk nonsense! My daughter is perfectly fine!" This time, Mom shot up, furious. "Say that again! I'll tear your mouth apart!" Dr. Price snorted. "Please. Sophie told me herself. After she gave birth, she wanted the baby brought here so her sister could raise him. Officers, I even have a letter she wrote!" He pulled out an envelope. In my last life, this letter never existed. When Sophie came back and publicly condemned me, Dr. Price had even stepped forward to help her, forcing me into a dead end. This scumbag was never a good person.

The first day of a lie always feels heavier than the truth. Sophia I stand in front of the frosted-glass doors leading to the CEO’s office, my palms damp despite the cool air of the executive floor. Everything up here feels different. Quieter. Sharper. Deliberate. I inhale and knock. No response. After a few seconds, I push the door open. The office is empty. I freeze.
