It was so obvious.
She turned the book, slow and careful. Stared at the nameless spine.
But I figured it out.

It took me forever.
Polished smooth.
I was such an idiot.
Its gleam muted and discreet. The edges heavy folds stitched with thread.

She gulped, the sour burn of this afternoon’s pesto panini and venti double shot rolling in her gut.

Her stomach lurched, her lunch scrambling toward her tongue. Hand to her mouth, she pivoted, scrambling toward the waste basket. Caught her breath. A moment later, the threat swallowed, she cleared her throat.
