She sat on the bed, rubbing her fingers over the golden figures inscribed on the stone, wondering if the old lady’s prediction was finally coming true. A few years ago, Madam Josefa had approached Cressida with an ominous declaration: “You will get back that which you have lost and you shall be happy and complete. But what has been cast aside shall also return, and in its wake will bring devastation that will shatter your peace.”

And judging by the laughter that followed them into wilderness that had become sanctuary, happiness was going to be magnificent. The End

I am not entirely sure if these Academy myths truly worked or were simply myths at all. Eventually the Barbarian’s numbers lessened, I could already see some staggering away and running back through the breach in the wall. We all cheered as the last one ran off into the breach and began to breathe easily; some even began ransacking a food crate that was sitting nearby. But like every jolt of happiness in this world, this one was short lived.

Even though I was sobbing the tent was silent. “Oh, my pretty little dear, you truly are wonderful. How was I blessed with a mute?” The admiration in his eyes would have been endearing if he hadn’t continued speaking, “I guess you will not be able to scream my name after all, but do not worry your pretty little head. We are still going to have plenty of fun.”
