Today, I was going in to submit my resignation. Back then, Joyce was the reason I chose to stay in this city. I even refused to inherit my family's estate, severing ties with my parents completely. Three days ago, when the typhoon hit, I put my life on the line to pick Joyce up. However, she refused to come home with me. On the way back, the storm was raging, and debris struck my shoulder. I couldn't sleep that night from the pain. Then I saw Finley's Instagram post and told Joyce I was breaking up with her.

The wind howled, my hair lashed in scattered strands across my face and the chilly draft seeping into my flesh was a reminder of the thin dress I had on. It was nothing suitable for a survival world like this and this fucking feast of respite was a mocking reminder that nothing good ever lasts in a place like this. I clung to the pipe, carefully wrapping myself around it as I slid down with swift ease until my legs buried into the sharp grass. “We made it.” Stella let out a sigh of relief. I stared up at the wrought iron gate looming ahead. “Let's make a run for that.” I pointed towards it and took her palms.

No worries, no killers. "Amelia", it was just a faint whisper on his lips. But enough to make my heart hammer in my chest. "Chief?", a deep voice interrupted us. Jaxon frowned sadly before he faced his back to me. "It's not a bomb. Pathogen is doing their test now. But you are clear for us", a big-chested short man, packed down with protective, informed Jaxon.

Her eyes were red as she stepped forward, one slow step at a time. I almost laughed at the sheer audacity. During the time she was "dead," I slit my wrists. I overdosed on pills. I tried to jump off a building. I must have tried a hundred different ways to kill myself just so I could be with her again. The only person who stood by me through all of it was Lena. Lena told me over and over that she would stay. That all I had to do was turn around. That all I had to do was let go.

**Hearts in the Storm** The storm outside rages on, mirroring the chaos within the cabin. Rain lashes against the windows, lightning occasionally illuminating the dark forest that surrounds them. Inside, tension simmers. Ethan, Sophia, Max, and Jason are all on edge, with danger looming just beyond the walls. The fire crackles, but its warmth does little to comfort them. As the gunshot echoes in the distance, fear tightens its grip on everyone, but it’s the weight of the secrets that has shattered the fragile trust between them.

The feeling of being rescued from drowning. "You can cry, and cry. If you want to cry, just cry. No one's gonna judge you for that. If you feel pain again, it's okay, let it out, suit yourself. Let yourself have its satisfaction. But after that, remember those pain. Learn from it. And promise yourself not to let that pain again. Don't let anyone hurt you again. Don't let them make you feel that again. Remember all of those times that you've cried. It will make you stronger."

Hailstorm’s POV Once I’ve recovered from my overdramatic episode, we were off – just grabbing three jackets and sneakers from the bags. Along the way, Lacy had ripped off some branches from the trees and well, they were our only defence. Please, goodness gracious – let us just make it to the damn road or to the cabin. Kira grabbed my hand, pulling me forward.

*Survive. With a groan that was half sob, Leo pushed himself up. He leaned against a thick, dripping tree trunk, shivering violently. He was lost. Utterly, hopelessly lost. The storm had erased any sense of direction. The trees crowded in, indistinguishable black shapes in the near-total darkness. The only light was the occasional, terrifying flash of distant lightning, illuminating the chaotic, rain-lashed forest for a split second before plunging it back into deeper blackness. Thunder rumbled, a menacing growl overhead.
