And I'm not backing down. Aldara steps into the circle. "The Challenge Absolute has been issued and accepted. Single combat. No interference. No weapons beyond what nature provided. Fight until one yields or dies." "I won't yield," Marcus says. "Neither will I." "Then one of you dies today." Aldara's ancient eyes meet mine. "The challenge begins at first light. You have until the sun clears the horizon to prepare. Use it wisely." She withdraws. Leaving us alone in the circle.

“Maybe a little.” Teams formed instantly. Heather pulled Baylee to her side, dragging Dakota and Avery with them. Collin ended up opposite them with the triplets, his grin already daring her to lose. “Oh no,” Heather muttered. “He’s got the smug face on. "If you want, we can start right away," Miller replied. Hagin glanced at his watch. "Let me go through the rules. This challenge will last ten minutes. If Wilbur cannot defeat Miller within that time and Miller is still able to get up, Wilbur will be considered to have lost. Of course, if Miller surrenders, the win will go to Wilbur. Alright. I'm going to count to three, and the challenge will begin. One, two, three—begin!"

Chance ate his taco, trying to hurry to get away from Aurora, but with the taco shell breaking up, he had to slow down. "How do you do that? Eating that spicy thing and drinking a sprite. It’s either you have no taste buds or are suicidal. Because the sprite in itself is hella crispy." "Fine, if I give you my number, will you leave me alone?" "No, you have to do a DNA test. Prove that we are related. If we aren't, then you'll never hear from me again. Chance chuckled, because it was like Deja Vu. He had heard similar words before.

I wasn’t aware of what it meant for an Alpha to challenge another Alpha, so I was glad when Adam said what he said next. “So there is no confusion, because once the challenge is laid out and accepted, the only way out is death.” I swallow a little at the seriousness of what Killian had done. “You are laying out not only yourself and your own life for this challenge, but your pack, all its assets, and all of its members. In other words, the loser of this challenge, loses everything. This will be your only chance to back down.” Adam looks seriously at Killian, who just nods.
