With the guidance of the Book of murk and the support of my family, I would sculpt out a future where the light triumphed over the dark. And as I closed the book and looked out at the stars, I felt a sense of peace. The trip would be long and laborious, but I was ready. The fate of our world rested on my shoulders, and I would not falter. I would face the darkness with courage and determination, knowing that the light within me was stronger than any shadow that hovered to consume us.

However, I realized that if not for my clear, bright eyes, I might have left the world two years ago. I guessed my death was the reason that my soul could finally drift away from the hospital room that had been my cage. I followed my mother, my ghostly eyes wide as I watched her sort through the mess I had left behind. My mother, who always took such pride in her looks and never seemed a day over 50, had aged a decade overnight, and her hair turned to silver. Her shaky, frail silhouette made my heart feel like it was being crushed. The day they closed my account with the world was bright and sunny. The harsh sun seemed to weigh heavily on my mother's hunched shoulders.

I will surely try to improve myself and remove every mistake of mine. I even never thought that someone even paid for my work. But you all still did thanks to everyone who spent coins on my book. I can visualize the clock wheels turning in his head, trying to decide if I am capable of understanding the complex poem. I like a challenge! I sit, ignoring the warmth spreading through my body as I lie close to Bryce, opening the tome, and I gasp. The artwork on the page is beautiful and elegant. The lettering reminds me of "The Book of Kells," a real work of art. But I do not have the time to carefully examine the intricate patterns and designs created in different colored inks.

"Light, listen to me." "No, I will not." Light stopped laughing and her countenance grew incredibly grave. "You've lost your mind. Every single thing that comes out of your mouth is brainwashed nonsense." "Brainwashed nonsense? Are you even listening to yourself?!" I bit out. "I've said this before. You've stayed with them too long. Everything is ruined now..." Light said with a crestfallen tone. Only for her eyes to light up once again as she said: "But there's a way to redeem yourself now."

Gosh, I miss her so much! The dim red light of the guard who brought me food cast a faint glow in the world of darkness and shadows which are surrounding me for too long. Although the red aura is a bad aura, I crave to see any form of light so badly that I don’t mind, as long as it illuminates the darkness of my world, at least for a moment. That is how desperately I want light, any light. To see anything, no matter how bad the things I’d see would be. You only learn to appreciate the simple things you have once when you lose them. The red aura of the guard reminded me of that night when the eternal darkness became my present and future - my reality. ***a long time ago***

“We did.” Lyra… Lyra was still out there, lost in the darkness. But for now, we had won. We had defeated the god of darkness. And together, we would rebuild. The war was over. But our fight for the light—our fight for each other—had finally been won.

he whispers. “It never does,” I say. “But it was, Jeremy, it was enough, you were enough.” He collapses against me again and I hold him while the sky gets lighter and lighter, pink and orange spreading across the horizon like the world doesn’t know it’s supposed to stop turning when someone dies. And somewhere in the distance, I hear birds starting to sing. The world moving forward. Even though Jeremy’s ended.

And somewhere, in the space between, the women who had built this place watched. Not because they were gone. Because they had taught us that the ones who come after — the children, the strangers, the broken and the brave — are the ones who carry the light forward. And we were carrying it now.
