I held the beating heart in the face of the remaining warrior who looked like he was about to piss his pants. “This will be how your heart will end up if you don’t find her and bring her to me,” I said curtly. The warrior shivered and I scoffed. They call themselves werewolves but they are weak and pathetic. “Y-yes Alpha!” The warrior whose name I don’t even know scurried out of the room like his tail was on fire. I crushed the heart in my hand and threw it on top of the dead body on the ground. “Master, do not despair. If she’s missing, it means she’s alive. We can just find her.” Brianna’s voice came and the steam coming out of my ears eased a little.

My heart sank, my vision blurring with rage. The second badge of warriors was being led towards the trees, their hands bound behind their backs. They were about to meet the same fate as Elder Ryker. A roar of fury erupted from my throat as I charged towards the enemy warriors. My body was a blur of motion, my claws extended. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, my senses consumed by rage. I slammed into the enemy warriors, my claws swiping through the air. My warriors followed close behind, their bodies a frenzy of motion as they tore into the enemy. The sound of snarling and growling filled the air, the scent of blood and sweat hanging heavy over the battlefield.

It was as if it was waiting—watching—for her to make a move. When she closed her eyes, the world around her faded, and a vision unfolded in her mind. She stood amidst a battlefield, the ground beneath her feet soaked with blood. Warriors clad in armor clashed, their weapons glowing with otherworldly power. At the center of the chaos was a figure holding the Heart, its dark energy radiating outward in waves of destruction. With every pulse, entire armies were wiped out, reduced to ash in an instant. The figure turned, and Aria’s breath caught. It was her. Or rather, a version of her—one consumed by the Heart’s power, her eyes glowing with an unholy light, her face devoid of compassion.

Then I quickly drove my right hand into his chest and plucked his heart right out of it. His partner who was still involved in a scuffle with one of my warriors beheld what just happened before him and was left terrified. As he pushed the warrior away from him, he took steps backwards with his eyes widened and his entire body trembling. Whoever it was that sent him surely failed to tell him what kind of man he was about to face. Such a shame he was about to find out by experience. I made my way to him very slowly, putting out my hand to my warrior to let me handle it myself. "Get up," I said to him, not wanting to kill a grounded man who wasn't put there by me. "Get up!"

"You have the heart of a warrior, but also the heart of a man. You must not war against either of them, for they both make up who you are. You must embrace both, and only then will you be able to do that which you fear the most." He stared at her, for a heartbeat, then two and turned around and headed for the door. He thought if he stayed in the room much longer than he had, he'd suffocate from all the emotions sizzling in the room, bubbling up inside him. Perhaps the seer was right after all, indeed he was a warrior, and he found himself warring and fighting against all within and around him. “This is a mistake.” He frowned looking at me confused. “You are angry again? I do not understand. How could this possibly be a mistake? We are betrothed. In what way is having feelings for someone that will be my future bride a problem?” It is a problem because I do not want anyone to have feelings for me. How am I to be a cold-hearted warrior and keep the name I had built for myself if I am so weak as to have feelings? Real warriors do not possess feelings or care because it is a weakness. Something that can be used against me in the long run, something that is only good for holding me back. How did no one seem to understand this? I did not wish to be loved and I would not love in return.

Kate's P.O.V. As I pressed my hand on that warrior’s skin, darkness swallowed me whole. The cold hospital room vanished, replaced by a battlefield drenched in blood. The injured warrior staggered across the ruined courtyard, every breath sounding like broken glass scraping his lungs. His wolf growled fiercely as three rogues surrounded him, attacking at once. Despite his injuries, the warrior refused to retreat. He fought like a man protecting something far more valuable than his own life. Claws collided, and growls shook the air as he managed to throw one rogue into a wall before another ripped across his shoulder.

Roman POV I got an urgent mind link from my warriors to get to my brother Reign’s home, my pulse hammering in my chest as I raced there. I contacted by mind link my oldest brother, Hamza, and a few trusted warriors to meet me there. Calling on my wolf, I pushed through the terrain as fast as I could, grabbing only a t-shirt and joggers, which I tied around my neck to change into later. Every second mattered. Every second was a chance to prevent more suffering.

The warrior stands as Quinn reaches him and asks, “Hey Quinn, what’s your problem man, it’s not like she’s marked. That makes her fair game for anyone so back off.” Quinn lets out one of the most menacing growls I have ever heard from the guy. He grabs the warrior by the throat, lifts him into the air and body slams him to the ground. “I SAID SHE IS MINE! This is your last warning. Touch her again and I will kill you.” As Quinn pins the warrior to the ground, his pack mates start exiting the water to come lend a hand if needed. The warrior that was on the ground must have linked them to stay out of it because they all came to an abrupt stop about ten feet away from where he was.

One afternoon, at lunch in the company cafeteria, I heard my colleagues gossiping. "Did you hear? The leader of the werewolf pack up north has made his return. His name is Ethan. I heard once he returned, he was so brutal that he dealt with all the traitors who poisoned him. He is now the strongest Alpha King." My spoon stopped halfway and my heart started to speed up.
