I was awake again, only this time my head doesn't hurt that much anymore and I remember who I am but I'm not in the same place I was before I blacked out. What is this place? Their eyes were empty, unfocused, and they were both wearing a strange, hollow smile. The rescue team leader stepped forward. "Mr. Sands? Mrs. Sands?" Dad suddenly clutched the tin of spam against his chest and shrank backward, his eyes wide. "Shh. Be quiet," he whispered, his voice shaking. "There are zombies out there. Going outside means death. "This is the last of our food. We have to ration it. We have to make it last." Mom nodded along beside him, completely serious. "One less mouth to feed. You'll get to live a few more days."

Before Christmas, the zombie apocalypse came. My husband threw me, his wife who had just given birth, to a horde of zombies because of his lover. I was eaten alive. My eyes snapped open and shot to the clock on the wall. December 24th. 11:47 PM. I was back. Christmas Eve. The final blizzard was closing in. The horde would be here in thirteen minutes. No time. I shoved through the crowd, sprinted to the control room, and slammed the emergency broadcast button.

I remained silent at the front, with my gun raised and ready the whole time. The emergency lights in the research lab flickered on and off, and the air stank of blood and decay. Distant growls of the zombies rumbled through the halls. We were about to reach the exit when a familiar wail cut through the darkness. "Help… Please, help me!" I took a closer look and saw Esmeralda pinned against a wall by three zombies, their teeth sinking into her. Her right arm had been ripped off, blood gushing like a fountain.

She could not take it anymore and begged to be put out of her misery. However, no one would do it. In the end, she died in terrible pain, and the sharks had their feast. When I heard about it, I was lying in the villa by the fire with Joseph. He was going to be a dad soon and was gently rubbing my belly, whispering to the baby and to me, "Little one, our family of three will have nothing but happy days from now on." I snuggled up to him with a smile on my face, feeling all the warmth in the room and in my heart. His words were the truth.

He would tell her, but only when the time was right. "Hmm… Let me put it like this, it's pretty much the same grouping as humans. You get both good and evil, and sometimes those who are caught in between. You see, being a vampire doesn't turn you into a monster. It only enhances what's already there. If a murderer got turned, they'd most likely be beyond evil and if it were someone good, say part of a dog rescue team or something, their pure spirit and good energy would be turned up." He explained.

The liquid inside shifted unnaturally. “He burned,” she finished, placing it back among the relics. Mae’s breath hitched. My stomach twisted—but I didn’t regret my words. The Ancient One turned back to us. “Becoming a vampire does not erase who you were,” she said. “It sharpens it.” Her eyes locked on mine again. “You will remember the fire. Every scream. Every face you failed to save.” Her voice softened, but only slightly. “And you will remember them forever.”

It was hard for her to control an infant body. She would find herself sleeping randomly and she definitely couldn’t control her poop. She would have to experience being an infant every time she gets reincarnated. She didn’t think that she’d get used to it anytime soon. Her mother and father were laying beside her asleep. When did this development happen?

My metabolism slammed on the brakes, and the agitated microbes settled back into a deep, quiet slumber. The truth of the game was simple. The virus wasn't spread by a bite. It was activated by sound. The party upstairs raged on, my family lost in the thrill of the slaughter. They had no idea that every gunshot, every scream, every beat of the music was waking up the plague inside them. And my "stupid" choice, the one they mocked and isolated me for, was the only thing keeping me alive. "Another round!" Chloe yelled on the channel. "Crank the music to max! Let these zombies feel the power of rock!"

Dakota was twelve but he was just as brawny and caring as he is now. The shadow pack was out of territory, attending an annual meeting in the north region. On their way back, they were alerted by the smell of smoke coming from the woods. When they came upon the camp site, they found the entire group slaughtered. The only remaining thing they found was a small pup, Nadia. Upon closer inspection, they realized that it wasn’t a pack of wolves but a pack of coyotes.
