That sounds like too much time and I'm sure Riley isn't completely defenseless. Squinting my eyes, I make a scan of her back before my eyes catch something from her neck. Moving over, I flick her hair to the side and just there are black lines that take up the shape of her vein. Instead of a nasty bite and spreading black, all I see is a small needle-like object stuck in her neck and something attached to it. But the surrounding area has black spread out like spider webs.

I was sure of it. I had lots of questions, but with the way he kept acting oblivious, I wasn't sure if I should ask. I realized I'd been holding eye contact with him for an uncomfortable amount of time and awkwardly turned away. My gaze shifted to Xlynor. He was leaned back, eyes fixed on the arena and his expression closed and unreadable. My eyes accidentally drifted down to his hand on the armrest, and then I saw it. Black veins visible through his skin, running along his fingers and stretching up into his arm like roots.

My eyes didn't miss the veins on his hands. My eyes traced his visible veins. I can see that. I don’t know why his veins were bulging or why his veins appeared like that. Maybe from working out? Lifting dumb bells or what? My gaze went up to his biceps. He's just wearing a T-shirt so I can see his whole arm. Fuck, those veins! Damn that hand. I wonder what it feels like to be choked by his hand. I closed my eyes tightly. There it is! There it is! I'm fucking imagining wild things. "Why can't you look at me? Look at me, Quiva."

So why am I feeling so drained, and why does my arm throb? I pull up the soaked sleeve to inspect the area that is giving me issues and gasp out loud when I see not just a mass of dark bruising, but my veins are a deep hue of purple and angry looking. My throat goes dry when I see a small hole, no bigger than a needle, but bright red, sitting in the center of the bruising and discolored veins. What did they do to me? It’s the logical question, the only one that comes to mind. They, whoever it was that attacked me, must have caused this.

(POV - Caroline Brennan) I know the reason behind Alex's shocked face yesterday is because of the mark on my neck. I looked at the reflection of my naked body in the bathroom, water still dripping from the ends of my hair because I had just finished showering. The base of my neck looks like it's rotting from the inside, even though my skin looks and feels fine but the area around Alex's mark is turning gray and almost black. Tiny purple vein-like strokes adorned the surroundings to make my neck look hideous.

They leaked upward from within his blood vessels, every dark line spreading along the pathways of his veins.

The veins on his arms and neck looked more prominent than usual, and he kept on swallowing, his prominent Adam's apple bobbing up and down. Even if my focus is slightly hazy, and my body feels on fire, I can’t help but to swallow heavily as I stared up at Heli, who looks so freaking ethereal above me. My anger and bitterness towards him doesn’t change how I perceived him at all. At least, not physically.
