She had no idea they existed. "What's your name?" she asked as she stroked its fur, even though she knew it couldn't answer. The wolf blinked its eyes as it looked at her. "How about Archie? It's a nice name, and it means brave," she said, smiling sweetly at it. She found it strange that she was conversing with an animal that couldn't talk back, but she didn't feel awkward about it, which was unusual for her. Aria wasn't one to fawn over animals like her roommate, but this one was different.

"Aww...I'm sorry, Kelly. What was its name?" I glanced up at James since he made up the lie and he chewed on his lip, trying not to smile. "Not sure. What was its name, Kelly?" I glared at him and took a deep breath. "Gordon." "Gordon! Aww, what breed was he?" "Chihuahua," Michael said with a sad look on his face. I turned to him and realized he was playing along. "Aw! My aunt had a pet Chihuahua named Stinky. He was so adorable. Can I ask how he died?"

She yelled. "You can't blame me for wanting a special name for my baby." I muttered. "There are so many special names! Well, you have me now. What about Voldemort?" I looked at her waiting for her to laugh at the joke but she kept a straight face. "You're joking, right?" "Of course not! I like the name, it's cute." She glared at me like I just stole her firstborn child. "Well, I obviously don't like it." "Okay, what about Brogan, Talon, Chardonnay, Neo, Brent, Luigi, Carlo, Smith, Thomas, Robert?"

She headed towards the dog and patted it on the head and it jumped towards her with so much joy, so infectious, she smiled, a genuine smile that reached her beaming eyes and heart. The brown curls were kind of dirty which meant it was lost probably for a while now, she rubbed its fur gently and it shook its dirt on her which made her laugh more. She lifted it and saw the name on the name tag, a golden bone that had the name "Shola" written on it, it was a weird name, it sounded English but it wasn't, she knew it wasn't English at least,

"You’re tiny, weird, and squishy, but… kind of cute." The creature cooed again, pleased with my words. "You should name it," Ella suggested, her paws landing on the warm sand. I frowned. "A name?" Ella hummed in agreement. "How about… Ella Junior?" I teased. "Do you want to die?" Ella grunted. She likes her name and hates when someone has the same name. I laughed. "Alright, alright. What about… Hydra?" Ella wrinkled her nose. "That’s awful. Give it something prettier."

Taking care of him was the least I could do after I let our mother slip between my fingers. "No more treats for you, you greedy fucker," he said, waving the last treat in front of Villentretenmerth. Yes, he named his dog after a character from a fantasy TV series he wouldn't get his head out of. He claimed it made the dog sound badass. Villentretenmerth was scared of his own fucking shadow. And yes, his name was a fucking mouthful, so Mikhail shortened it to just Villen. Why he couldn't go with a normal name in the first place was as good as anyone's guess as mine.

So if it’s a pet name he wants, a pet name he’d get. I rubbed my temple thinking of something. “Zozo.” I announced. He frowned. “Zo…what the hell is that?” “It’s the last syllable of your name. I added another ‘Zo.’ It’s cute, right?” “No. It’s like what you’d call a dog. I wasn’t saying you should give me animal names. I meant…like how I call you Reina, you know…think of something sweet for me.” I crossed my arms. “I think Zozo’s sweet.”

Gaia sighed, shaking her head and looking to Ashley for support. “Nope,” she replied, popping the “p” for emphasis, as they continued to listen to their mate’s “ideas”. “--- Persephone, Pep for short!
