Parents, pack leaders, skeptics, and supporters gathered to watch these unusual students display their progress. The witch-blooded girl made flowers bloom in winter soil. The phoenix descendants created a coordinated fire display that painted stories in the air. The rare wolves showed abilities that defied traditional classification.

"They're on fire." We rushed to join her, looking out at a scene of devastation that made my blood run cold. Three of the Academy's residential buildings were burning. Not accidental fires—controlled detonations designed to eliminate everyone inside. "The students," I whispered. "They're accelerating the timeline," Aldrin said from where he sat, restrained but not defeated. "Phase Four was always going to involve eliminating all Academy residents. You've simply forced us to implement it ahead of schedule." "You're murdering children." "We're removing obstacles to necessary progress."

I said sarcastically before removing her fingers that were gripping my chin. Amy tsked at my reaction but her eyes were still glued to him, watching him from the distance with dreamy, heart-filled eyes.

I am the only shape shifter." My laugh came out, half hysterical. “Werewolves? Vampires? Witches? Dragon riders?” I repeated, like he had just offered me the script of a bad movie plot. “And you’re telling me this with a straight face?”

It is where the strongest are chosen to move on, and the weak either die, quit, or get expelled. Werewolf Academy isn’t your regular human university. There, we are taught the necessary skills to survive the incoming war. We study like the human do, but learning their science and technology is in no way fundamental to us. We have the Moon Goddess. We have portals. We have her blessed magic. We have pack telepathy. What better way to communicate than that?
