“Get up, you lazy bag of bone!”

The angry voice of the Luna, Margaret, woke up the young lady that fell asleep halfway doing the chores assigned to her. A loud slap followed behind even before Seraphina could fully comprehend what was going on.

“Mother,” Seraphina called with sleepy eyes, that was long gone at the vicious stares she was getting from the Luna of the Midnight park. Tears threatened to fall from her face at the harsh treatment , but she knew better than to give her more reason to mistreat her.

At the utterance of that word, Seraphina knew that she had committed a huge crime, because the last thing Margaret would ever do was to acknowledge the fact that a weak werewolf, abandoned right in front of the park house eighteen years ago, will be her flesh and blood.

That was nothing but a hopeless wish that young Seraphina knew wasn’t going to come true. With her stomach grumbling from lack of food since yesterday, dark circles under her eyes, she looked more like a zombie than a living being right now, yet, that didn’t move the heart of the angry woman who looked ready to beat her up for failing to complete the task assigned to her.

“Mother?” Margaret scoffed at her words, it’s like the eighteen years of living within the park as a nobody, without knowing who she truly is made her had no ounce of mercy for the young child.

A shriek of pain left Seraphina’s lips when she grabbed her by her hair.

“How many times will i tell you not to address me as such, you filthy wench! Had it not been for my husband’s immense kindness towards you, I would have thrown you out into the wild.” Margaret sneered, as tears cascaded down Seraphina's Face. A groan left her lips when she was pushed towards the pack of wood that was her bed.

Her sides connected with it and she fell to the floor, tiredly. This isn’t life,no, this wasn’t the life she had with her mother. It was her mistake that changed everything.

In a world like this, being kind was nothing but a weakness, Seraphina couldn’t believe that this was the same woman that had treated her with love, until a few words from her real daughter, accusing her of trying to steal her father’s love towards her changed everything.

Ridiculous right?

The only sin that Seraphina committed was not knowing who her real parents were. She didn’t know why they abandoned her. Even if they had a reason, she couldn’t believe that a mother would abandon her child.

She could only be grateful to Alpha Kane who had taken her in, despite the Luna's harsh treatment which everyone adapted to. In the park, she was treated like a pushover, no, she’s the only one cursed.

Unable to transform into her wolf form, she’s considered lower than the lowest ranked werewolf in the midnight park. Yet, that didn’t change her perspective of them being her family.

Is she cursed by the moon goddess?

That’s a big question no one had answers to, the only answer she has was nothing but a clue to find who her parents were, is a necklace with a moon curved pendant with the initials E at the back of it.

“I’m sorry, mo..I’m sorry Luna.” Seraphina corrected herself immediately, hoping that would put an end to this early morning drama. But the Luna hasn’t been one to be easily appeased.

“That’s all you will ever be, Seraphina. You will always be sorry for choosing to ruin my family. For trying to take my daughter’s love away from her father, your senseless orphan!” Margarett yelled.

The event that led to her last statement still lived rent free in Seraphina’s head, and she still regretted having to play a good samaritan by reporting to the alpha, his daughter's plan to sell his land to pay off her boyfriend's gambling problem.

“Mother, my breakfast isn’t ready yet and I’m late for my class!” A voice cried.

Speaking of the devil, it was no one but Chloe who barged inside her room in anger. She was a college student in the city while she was denied the opportunity to leave their territory, even if she wanted to find her real parents, she had no idea where to start.

Hence, she was nothing but a slave to the family that raised her. It was the Luna’s idea that she pay back for the free food and accommodations.

When Seraphina’s eyes connected with Chloe’s she kept her gaze down in fear. The young lady has treated her no less than a beggar that she was, and has always scrubbed it in her face that without her father, that she’s nothing.

“I will help you with breakfast, come on Chloe.” Margaret said, taking one last look at Seraphina before leaving with a huff.

“I’m sorry.”Seraphina apologized again, which made Chloe scoff at her words.

She didn’t have anything to say to Seraphina since she knew that her mother would set things straight with her. But just to pay her back for making her late for school, she walked over to where Seraphina was and snatched that necklace which left marks on her skin when her long nail scratched her. A hiss left Seraphina’s lips before she locked eyes with the necklace in Chloe’s hands.

“Give it back.” She said, no, it wasn’t a demand but an order. One that Chloe didn’t take lightly, but Seraphina didn’t care.

“And if i don’t ?” Chloe sassed.

Chloe just knew her weakness and was trying to play with it. She rushed to snatch it from her but Chloe snatched her up by her hair, and flew her across the room using her strength.

A painful groan left her lips, she clutched at her sides that was in deep pain. Seraphina tried standing but wasn’t able to do that.

“What a pity!” Chloe sighed, coming closer to where she was on the floor. “Do you possibly think that holding on to this useless thing will help you find your parents that abandoned you?”

“Shut up! You know nothing about my parents!” Seraphina cried.

She hated how everyone was going about how she was abandoned, as if there wasn’t a possibility that there might be a reason for that.

“You will never be able to leave the confines of this place Seraphina, why?” Chloe smirked, “Because you are a prisoner here, take it or leave it, nobody will be willingly to accept a cursed thing like you.”

Her words hurt Seraphina so deeply, with the adrenaline high in the air as a result of Chloe playing with her emotions, she smacked her across her face drawing blood.

Chloe’s eyes widened at the sight of the blood. “You bitch!” She screeched in anger, her eyes turned yellow that it took everything in her not to kill Seraphina right here.

With her hands raised high to hit Seraphina who was on the verge of losing consciousness. A loud voice halted her actions.

“What do you think you are doing?!” Alpha Kane’s voice thundered in the room, which made Chloe flinch the moment she heard her father’s voice and she stood up in fear.

“F..father.” She stuttered.

Hearing the alpha’s voice, Seraphina was relieved that she’s safe before she fell to the floor with a thud as darkness overtook her consciousness.
