Frustrated, I attempted to retrieve the books from their hands, but they towered over me.

They stood before me, as they began tearing the books apart, a cruel act that felt like a personal attack.

“Please, stop! They’re precious,” I pleaded but they didn’t stop, they continue laughing and smirking at me.

The most bullies who are centered by other maids, suddenly said: “Wait what? I thought books from the library should be precious. Maybe we-“

Another maid interrupted “Since when did you start playing the good cop? That’s a omega’s book! Rip it apart!”

On hearing them say that, I fell on my both knees pleading.

As an omega maid in the pack house, I’m used to enduring pains and humiliation from my fellow pack members even my peers, and the enduring of constant mistreatment had left me weary and it’s making me go insane, but what can I do?

Am just weak and helpless. The belittling extended beyond Betas, even the superiors were not exempted , it became worst as it extended to my fellow maids.

“No please! They’re not even mine!!”

I screamed my lungs out in pain while my knees were still buried in the soil, pleading.

But they all looked at me with a sad faces which I knew was fake, as they all burst into series of laughter.

“You’re just a lowly maid; why would we let you use the library? Reading doesn’t make you better than us,” the maid centered by others jeered indifferently.

I remember that she’s named Cynthia. She’s our Gamma’s daughter.

“I never claimed that. Insult me, not the books; they’re not mine.”

“You’re nothing. We’d rather do this to your precious book. You’re a thief, lower than the lowest maid,” they taunted, tossing the torn book at me.

I tried to bend down so that I could gather at least some of the torn leaves which they had stick on my face, but my face kept being slapped by the leaves they threw at me.

Anger surge through me, I wanted to punch them on their faces but I wasn’t getting the courage to punch them.

I was scared. Not because of being beaten, but because I’ve never for once stand up for myself to fight back.

I tried not to let them see me cry because the humiliation will be more but I wasn’t even really bothered about that too, my worry was about the books which this girl’s had torn, the owner of the books had given it to me wholeheartedly but I’ve being too careless to let them destroy it.

While contemplating on what to do next, I noticed someone approaching us, but one of the girls gave me a dangerous stare but I looked away.

“Who are you?” the person who approached us asked. “And what did this maid steal from you? You shouldn’t hit her or destroy her property you know?.”

Stammering apologies, my bullies quickly retreated. While I stood in wonder why they seemed so scared suddenly. As they fled, I blushed, grateful for someone standing up for me.

For the first time since the attack, I glanced at my rescuer and was struck by his striking appearance. His dark hair was combed neatly to the back of his head making him looking dangerously attractive. If anyone had observed me closely, they might have noticed the rosy cloud of admiration hovering above my head.

“Thank you so much,” I whispered, avoiding eye contact to conceal my growing blush. “I apologize for the disturbance. It won’t happen again.”

Keeping my head down, I crouched to gather the torn leaflets of the books. My hero surprised me by squatting beside me, silently assisting in the cleanup.

After we finished, he reached for the collected papers, and I handed them over with a grateful smile. “Thank you, sir, for earlier and for rescuing me from those girls. It means the world to me that-“

Ignoring me, he extended his hand for the book, but I resisted. “No, sir, let me handle it. You’ve already done so much for me today.”

Relenting, he gave me the sheets, and I carefully arranged them back into the book. “What book is that, anyway?” he asked, amusement evident. “It seems like you care a lot about it.”

“Yes, I just borrowed it from the library, and-“

“This library?” He snatched the books from my hands, examining the title. That’s a book about how to rule a pack.

I start to feel nervous and my hunch was right.

“Who gave you permission for this? It’s off-limits to most people. Besides, aren’t you just a maid? How did you access it?”

He asked several questions in a row, and that scared me the more

Confusion crawled up in my reaction, I looked between him and the book. “No, sir, I didn’t know we needed permission. The guards have never stopped me; I’ve been coming here for quite some time to get books to read here and no problems.”

Realization crossed his face, followed by a sarcastic smile. Abruptly, his expression shifted to anger, and he tossed the book at me, tearing the front page with a thud.

Swiftly, I crouched to retrieve the book, avoiding eye contact due to his evident anger. He approached me with a cruel smile, getting close enough to whisper in my ear, “Looks like you’ve found yourself a sugar daddy in this place, huh?”

He then walked away, leaving me in so much confusion and irritation, as my gaze fixed on his departing figure.
