Knowing your sins is fertile ground for huge breakthroughs in life. Traditional religious sins try to reduce all these specific self-defeating behaviors into much broader, one-word categories of no-no behavior, such as "greed" or "pride" but those don't give us enough clues as to how else to go about things.
