I jump in fright and put my hand over my chest, turning around to see Axel standing on a tree brench, smirking at my reaction. I frown at him and open the window, which I closed earlier today for a change. "You scared me." I tell him when I open the window like fresh air and he climbs in. He chuckles. "I noticed. What have you been reading?" he asks and I lift up the book. "Tess of the d'Urbervilles." I tell him and he takes the book from my hand, turning it in his hand and looking at where I left off.

The sky above them cracked again but this time not wider. Smaller. Closing. Kaelen’s eyes widened. “It’s collapsing the doorway.” Ash blinked. “Wait… she’s sending it back?” Rex didn’t speak. He watched. Because that’s exactly what was happening. The creature made one last movement. Not forward. Not attacking. Reaching. But not for her. For the space between them. For the energy.
