Chapter 15: Two Moons Entwined Chris read through the result slip a couple of times, thinking he had mistaken the word “Alpha” as “Omega”. Nevertheless, no matter how many times he read it, the word “Alpha” was clearly stated there. For whatever unknown reasons, Chris was not satisfied with the result and he was denying the fact Nathan was an Alpha. Before this, he was certain his best friend was an Alpha and he did not mind it. However, after talking to his mother and listening to her thoroughly, Nathan’s description fitted more to be an Omega rather than an Alpha. Nonetheless, a heavy-seed Omega — the rarest of the rare.

“I don’t know where to start.” Dad sighs again and shakes his head. “Start from explaining what the hell this omega thing is.” I say gently. “In the werewolf world. There’s another type of hierarchy. Same with how with humans there’s hierarchy of class, where some are middle class and some are high class. Well In the werewolf world, an omega is the weakest and least desirable among them. The Alpha is the highest, followed by his Luna, his beta and then gamma. The omega is always last place.”

He said as he turned to the shelves and started looking through them. “Well, my dear. In the werewolf society, there’s a hierarchy.” He said as he got the pack of flavored tea leaves from the shelf. How did he know it was there? “And we label that hierarchy using the Greek Alphabet.” He squatted and got the teapot from the bottom shelf. He turned on the gas and put it on then added exactly two cups of water. “I happen to be an alpha, the first in the Alphabet, yeah? And the first three titles are considered, the royal family of the pack.”

Which meant that I was to go through my ceremony truly alone. At the Midnight ceremony, I will also discover another aspect about myself, which is my place in the wolf hierarchy, my tier. There were three tiers in the wolf hierarchy, Alpha, Delta and Omega. Alphas were the rarest of them all, born leaders. Deltas were commoner than Alphas, but unlike being an Alpha, being a Delta was not inherited from the parents. Omegas were the commonest tier, and like Deltas, it was totally random being an Omega.

She planned to milk this experience for all it was worth, by the time they left this place, she would at least have basic knowledge of werewolves, and not just some ideology from an outsider. “Well ,there are the thetas, the betas and the Alphas. The Alphas are at the top of the ladder, there’s usually one for each state, then there are regional Alphas, chosen among the state Alphas, Continental Alphas, then there’s an Alpha Supreme, he’s the head Alpha of the world. The Alphas make the decisions around here, they sign treaties, basically, they are like Presidents. After them, we have Betas, they act like Vice Presidents, only, they do more, the Betas are the head warriors of every pack, the

I had been talking to my wolf, and the last thing I needed was for anyone to overhear and start asking questions I couldn't answer. The thought weighed heavily on me as I paced the small room. Within the pack's confines, ranks dictated everything: your role, your future, even the way others treated you. Alphas were born leaders; Betas were their steadfast second in command, and Gammas were the protectors. Beyond that, the hierarchy included warriors, trackers, healers, and of course, Omegas.

The word felt heavy, like something I had heard in stories but never in real life. He nodded. “Yes. Werewolves live in packs. Think of it like a family but also like a company. The Alpha is like the manager or the leader. They make decisions for the good of everyone. Under the Alpha there is the Beta, who helps lead and keep order, and then the Gamma who takes on other duties. It is a hierarchy; a system that keeps the pack strong.”

During the course of our talk, she had come to sit beside me on the bed to get a better experience of the story. "So, tell me, is he hot? Well, he should be considering all Alpha's are," she mused. That's the thing about werewolf society; only the best for the best, as my mother correctly stated. There are different levels in our society; we have the Alphas, Betas, Gammas, Omegas, and the in-betweens. The alphas are at the top of the food chain and also the pack leaders, while the omegas are at the bottom and the rest follow suit.
