She had discovered that tinsel had other uses and was not just for decorating the tree. Jasper opened the double doors, and all Gracie and the rest of them could see was a tall glistening tree, full of lights and glittery baubles. Gracie gasped in awe as she stared at the tree of her dreams. Katie's mouth fell open in a perfect O shape, Suki stopped babbling to herself, and even Jess gasped. Ellie loved the look on Gracie's face, she had worked so hard to make everything memorable for her, and it was a good job that she had, especially with a mother like Roni! God, how could she, and at Christmas too?

She went into her bedroom and covered herself with a blanket until she fell asleep. Sam slept soundly that night so she dreamed of the tree house again. "I'm here again." She said sadly. "What's in this tree house?" She asked. She circled around the edge of the tree house. It looks like a normal tree house when you look at it, but there is a demon in that tree house that remained alive and strong even a few decades ago, so it's amazing why it hasn't been destroyed on purpose. If you look at the tree house, it is in good condition and you can't tell how many years it has been standing. Sam stopped near the stairs of the tree house. Her eyes widened and trembled to see the souls around her.

Melody smiled, taking a sip from her mug. Tara chuckled. “I think your excitement is rubbing off on me.” By late morning, they were in Tara’s car, music playing softly as they drove through town, singing along, dear senor Santa clause by Jim Reeves. Christmas decorations lined the streets, garlands, lights, oversized bows tied around lampposts. The air was warm, strangely so for the season, but no one seemed to mind. They parked near a shopping district and wandered on foot, stopping to admire window displays filled with ornaments, fake snow, and mannequins dressed in festive outfits. They were going to shop for a tree together.

I’ve got something even more exciting planned!” “I already said no Christmas gifts this year,” I replied, feeling completely exhausted. My spirit was drained, lacking any kind of festive joy. “Oh, it’s Christmas Eve,” Hugo said with a grin. “Feel free to open one gift.” He stood up from the couch, gently placing Estelle back into her little white lace bassinet. He then crouched under the Christmas tree and retrieved the tiniest box, wrapped in plaid paper with a bow that seemed oversized for its size.

She didn’t know why it bothered her so much. It wasn't like he owed her anything, this was a signed contract. And even still she couldn't shake the feeling away. What was he really running from? Jasmine reached the main hall, which had been transformed yet again for another shared festivity. Twinkling lights and festive music played softly in the background. A massive Christmas tree stood in the center of the hall covered in Christmas lights. It had been there all along but it was today she was truly noticing it. Staff members were setting up a buffet table with the morning breakfast and pastries, hot chocolate, and all kinds of cuisine.

Brayan asks, his big round eyes widening as he pleads, and there’s no way I’m saying no to that. “Fine,” I tell him. This is the last of the Christmas decor anyway, so he can get to put it up. I hand him the flower, pick him up to give him some added height, and I direct him to hang the mistletoe over the door knocker. “WOW! It’s so nice and pretty. This is where kisses happen right?” Brayan asks innocently, and I nod. He turns to face me, malice glinting in his baby eyes, and already knowing that he’s about to ask when I’ll kiss a girl here, I attack him with a ton of kisses. Since he’s in my arms, there’s really nothing else for him to do other than twist in my grasp.

Judy whispered, like she was afraid her joy might scare Malaya away. Malaya's smile was smaller this time—still shy, but real. "Merry Christmas, Grandma Judy." Judy's hand flew to her mouth. Tears spilled without permission. "Merry Christmas, sweetheart," she breathed. "Oh… thank you for calling me." Jerry leaned into view, impatience playful. "And what about me, huh?" Malaya giggled. "Merry Christmas, Pawpaw." Jerry's entire face lit up. "That's my girl!"

Luke asks. “We go out and get some stuff. We need decorations, lights, a tree. The whole nine,” Benedict replies. His brothers go to get their coats and boots, and we squeeze back into Benedict’s truck, since he has the most space for stuff. He puts the radio on a Christmas station, and sings with me all the way into town. “Should we start with the tree?” I ask, looking out the window as we pass one of the many Christmas tree farms around Sweetwater Lake. It’s sort of the best place to spend Christmas, with the snow and the trees and the picturesque views.

“I’m not about to give a big speech, but I would like to invite every pup under sixteen to visit the big tree for a very special treat.” Predictably, the wolves shift around, looking unsure and uncomfortable, no one has ever given them a gift before. A brave little girl with blond pigtails jumps to her feet. “The shiny twee, you mawjesty?” she asks. “Yes, kid, the shiny tree,” Edric grins at her and steps out from behind the table. He takes her hand and leads her to the tree Jessica and I decorated this morning. We didn’t have enough time or decorations to do a good job. Hell, it’s not even a real Christmas tree. We just picked the biggest tree in the garden and went to work.
