The employee was on edge, but Seth cut him off with a sharp tone before he could finish. "What are you talking about? Over a hundred cancellations?" He stepped forward and grabbed the employee by the collar. "Is there some mistake? These customers paid deposits. Why would they all cancel at once?" Lily pushed her way in, fixing a hard gaze on the employee. "There's got to be a mistake. Check it again! "Is this some kind of sick joke? Someone pretending to be a customer just to mess with us?"

“What, you wanna play bingo?” “Yeah, someone grab me a marker, I’m feeling lucky tonight.” Reed grins. I snort into my s’more, nearly choking on crumbs. “Fuckers. I was gonna say truth or dare,” Jace shoots back, flicking the bottle cap at Reed. Luca rolls his eyes and pulls a face. “Perfect. Should we paint each other’s nails and gossip about our high school crushes next?” This time I actually choke on the marshmallow, coughing around a laugh that bubbles out before I can swallow.

My smile widened as I mindlessly took off my jacket setting it down on the leather seat. I clung to Dalton chatting with him as Enzo thought it was the time for the like of the day as he called it. It was one of those stupid habits that we had going on as kids and it kinda stuck with us and Enzo was the one with the shittiest and corniest jokes. I braced myself to hear one of his dad jokes, Dalton was holding in his laugh at the eager look on his brother's face already. "What do you call a joke without a punchline?"

"Cardboard and suffering?" "Exactly." Jonathan’s eyes lit up, happy to see even a tiny smile. "And if that doesn’t work, I’ve got jokes. Why did the painter go to jail?" Lucy shook her head, still wiping tears. "Because he was framed!" A surprised giggle escaped her. "Oh no… that’s actually terrible." "I’ve got more," he warned with a playful grin. “And they won’t be half as fun.” He raised a dark eyebrow. “I guess not. Just don’t beat me at blackjack. I’m not sure my ego can take the battering.” “Oh, I might just beat you at everything for calling me Bambi.” “It slipped out.” Now I raised an eyebrow. “The last time you called me Bambi you’d followed me to the Charles de Gaulle airport because you were worried you wouldn’t get to say goodbye. Now you’re saying it over poker?” He smiled and leaned forward. “Like I said, it slipped out.”

"And guess what? He raised his cup, moving it in circle as he waited for me to guess. Yeah, he probably knew I was really poor in making guesses. He had talked, he let the cat out of the bag. "I know how dumb you could be most at times. So let me not keep the newe waiting and the excitement dying because of some dumb soul." He scoffed, laughing hard as he banged the table at his own jokes and what was required of every one who was present there was to laugh alongside with me. Even if…. It was a boring joke, no one cared as far as they wouldn't lose their life.

Some had almost flipped over their pots and pans. Belladonna chuckled and Alaris smirked. The reaction should be the other way around but they would play off to the point that it would be taken for a joke. "What do you think I was?" He bumped his shoulder against one of them and the man almost choked. "A--a Tuna?" They laughed. "Don't be stupid," another said and tried again. Soon, it became a joke, everyone trying to outdo the other with their ridiculous ideas. Guesses around the cooking fire, singing at the food serving, and exchanging of plates at the tasting.

The air crackled with their adrenaline and camaraderie, their anticipation for the upcoming game contagious. As I pushed my way through the crowd, one guy jeered, "Hey, look at Shorty over here! What's your sport, little man? Mini-golf?" Laughter erupted around me. Another chimed in, "More like the Elf Olympics!" Their laughter felt like a punch to the gut, but I wasn't surprised. I already knew my height would be another point of contention I'd have to deal with here. Trying to mask my discomfort, I shot back, "You know what they say about us little guys, right? We're like ninjas, here one moment, gone the next." Their laughter only grew louder, echoing loudly in my ears.

“Shouldn’t he be stockpiling food?” “He’s got two hundred cans of kidney beans buried all around the cabin, apparently.” Bing swore under his breath. “Him and his buddies have some kind of club. This is what happens when the city cuts funding for the senior center. Too much time on too many old geezers’ hands. Like I needed something else to worry about. None of them can see worth a damn. Running around in the woods with guns.” He closed his eyes for a second and rubbed his eyelids. “Maybe we could offer bingo night here at the station.” Jack tried to lighten the mood.
