Her eyes then bulged at the sight of me, the sound of a gasp entering her lips before she looked at Xander. That was the last thing I saw before he closed the door, cutting off most of the light that was entering into the room. I could barely see anything more than three feet ahead of me. I took a long shaky breath as I turned towards Xander, freezing under his suddenly confident gaze. His mossy green eyes shone through the dark as all vampires eyes did. His familiar grin made a quick appearance, instinctively making me take a step back. The slim hope I had of those files even existing quickly disappeared.

I didn't understand how it could be that way. My neck began to prickle, and another Vampire materialized in the room. He was old and stooped and wore a long white robe like a monk would wear. Someone had to turn him when he was old. It seemed such a horrible thing to be trapped for all eternity in that decrepit body. Four more Vampires materialized, each wearing white, and they stared at me. In unison they began to glide toward me—all except Alexis, who watched me with completely black eyes.

She couldn’t pull her eyes away from the black ooze; she was too mesmerized. “Listen carefully,” Raye said, grabbing her arms to demand her full attention.
