I can only see the boy that used to be little and bubbly. He was standing near one of the larger canvases, staring at me with the coldest eyes he could ever give. He was alone. I opened my mouth. I don’t even know what I was going to say. “Noah…” In the end, I called his name. It came out in a whisper. Soft. Hopeful. My heart was racing loud inside my chest. His head tilted slightly. And then…nothing. No smile. No recognition. Just a long, blank stare.

I remind him. He stares at me blankly for a moment, so intensely, I’m unsure of whether I should look away from him. His eyes slightly narrow, as if he is considering something important. I’m waiting for him to suddenly drop a bomb on me, but instead, he silently stands, grabbing for the sleeve of my shirt.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I stare in my vanity mirror. The woman stared back. The woman was plain, its hair though messy laid straight on her shoulders up to her exposed elbows. Black orbs that seem to be the most common in the world stared blankly right back at me. And then she came in my hindsight. Her pink hair and her unique blue eyes that could captivate anyone by simply staring at them in a matter of seconds. Her petite body that always seems helpless and a victim—so fit to protect and caress.

Knock, knock, knock I heard a male voice yell for someone to calm down, and I straightened up as the door was opened promptly. A somewhat short and stout man stared back at me with confusion. He was entirely bald, and wore a stained grey sweatshirt. Rubbing his full black beard, he looked me up and down with two sunken in hazel eyes. “Are you lost, Synok?” Are you kidding!? You can see the outline of my breasts in this sweater. Fuck you, I’m not your son.

So we keep staring. Waiting to see who blinks first.

Without the two of them know, a pair of eyes stared blankly with an increasingly devastating feeling. …………… ..

Heart still thudding from that stare, I glance back toward the car. But it’s empty.

Feeling flustered at being caught staring, I simply grunted and moved away from the window. Blake gave me a funny look, his expression serious of a sudden. “What?” I demanded, going back to my chair. He studied me for a few seconds, then his gaze flitted to the window and back to me. His lips thinned and he scowled at me. “Don’t even think about it, buddy.” “Think about what?” Lucy turned from the window with a puzzled look. I matched Blake’s scowl with one of my own and for a few seconds we had a staring contest to see who would back down first.
