My eyes magnified as he lit it up and let the smoke smear the space with a smirk on his face. He knew I was allergic to smoke yet that has never stopped him from smoking in front of me. I grasped the sink tight and let out an arid and severe cough.

BRYNNE Kade’s brow shoots up. “Where the fuck am I supposed to get a candle in this place?” Anywhere. I roll my eyes and turn toward Tristan. He shifts, sitting up a little straighter. Curiosity flickers in his normally blank gaze. “What’s going on?” he asked. Again, I ignore the question. “Can I get your lighter?” Of the four of us, he’s the only one who smokes. Father has tried to get him to quit too many times, but since his academic results are great and his combat skills even better, there’s only so much he can do.

Within moments, she was gone, the door clicking shut behind her. Lucian poured himself a glass of whiskey, the amber liquid catching the dim light. He brought the glass to his lips, draining it in one long swallow. The burn in his throat was faint compared to the storm brewing inside him. For a moment, he stood there in silence, staring into the empty glass. Then he set it down with a quiet clink and turned toward the window, his expression unreadable. The house remained eerily silent, save for the faint echo of Adele’s hurried footsteps in his mind.

Holding a lighter in my hand, I clicked it open and clicked it shut, the sound penetrating into the silence of the night. “Boss, you can go closer, I already caused a distraction, there are no more securities around.” Walter said from the earbuds in my ears and truly, there were no more securities roaming about. “It's time to get down to business.” I muttered, walking closer towards the clan from the mountain above. With a flick of my wrist, I threw nitromethane onto the flames, ignited by the lighter….. And boom! The compound went up in flames in seconds. Fire alarms blared through the silence of the night and securities rushed out, all trying to evade the flames that quickly caught up with

“Then we do this together.” Celeste nodded. “The first fire will be named. The justification dismantled. And the pattern broken.” Outside, the city lights flickered on as evening settled. The world continued, unaware of the history written into ash beneath its feet. Evelyn looked once more at the folder on the table. Fires. Names. Lies framed as necessity. The first fire had been lit in fear. This time, the truth would burn instead. And it would not stop until the pattern was gone.

However, the rain extinguished the fire before he could even light up the cigarette. He started getting irritated, he tried again, but the wind extinguished the fire this time. “F*ck!!!” The person shouted and threw his lighter on the ground. “Come, I’ll help you. The fire from this lighter won’t be blown by the wind or extinguished by the rain.” Another person from the side extended his hand and took out a Zippo lighter. He lit up the cigarette. “Okay,” the guy replied and put the cigarette into his mouth and puffed.

I said to him and he nodded at me. “Fire, blue fire works best for witches, it starts to burn them from the inside,” he said to me. “I’ve never used blue fire before, just green and red,” I said to him. “It works basically the same, but I’ll teach you the words. I’ve never used them, because I don’t want to feel the burning afterwards, you should really consider not doing it,” Bryan said to me. “If the option is there not to use it, I won’t. Last time wasn’t so nice,” I said to him and he laughed at me.

She lifted her arm and extended it, palm outward. Focusing her aim in a way that now came naturally to her, she fired a tight, two-inch wide yellow beam at the nearest carcass, striking the joint of one of the arms just below the giant pincer. Her beam cut easily through the cartilaginous material, and the pincer dropped to the ground. “Very cool,” Lights said approvingly. “Kind of like a laser—tight and concentrated. Blaze’s Power is more like a flamethrower—an extremely hot flamethrower.”

The tip glows red when I inhale deep, smoke fills my lungs and it burns perfect. I close the case with a sharp snap. Set it back on the desk exactly where it was. The first drag tastes like victory. Like power, like tomorrow’s blood. Somewhere out there a man is waking up to the fact that his daughter now carries my name burned into her flesh.
