WINTER POV My hands were still shaking when we got back. Not from fear. From adrenaline. From the way my body hadn’t frozen this time. From the fact that I’d actually fought back. The house looked worse in daylight. Broken door. Cracked walls. Security moving in and out like shadows. The air still carried that sharp, metallic edge of violence. But something inside me felt… different. Awake. “You’re bleeding.” Kai’s voice cut through my thoughts. I blinked. “What?”

I swing my sword up, slicing its foot clean off. It screams, stumbling backwards. Its mouth opens but I don't have enough time to get out of the way before a stream of black liquid sprays across my face. I let out a loud hiss as it burns my skin. I grit my teeth against it and shove my sword into the monster's chest. I quickly sheathe the blade and dart out of the way. Its body crashes to the ground with a resounding thud, centimeters from my feet. I look around and see that only one monster remains, surrounded by creatures of all kinds. I spot Kaine rushing at it and groan in frustration.

“I didn’t get the chance to thank you.” Her breath shook. “Thank me? You kissed me without my permission,” she whispered. “You scared me. And now—now you’re here? Why? What do you want from me?” The corner of his mouth tilted, almost amused. “So you know who I am.” “You’re Adriano Greco,” she said, her voice trembling. “The monster people talk about.” He took another step closer. “Monster?” he repeated softly. “That’s what they call me?”

he screamed, stepping back. I grabbed the bleach bottle and hit him on the side his head as hard as I could, causing him to step backward. I took advantage of his momentary unbalance as he rubbed his eyes, knowing that I only had a second. I unscrewed the cap from the bleach bottle and threw the contents at him, causing him to scream out in pain as bleach covered his face and hair. I grabbed the broom and, finding sudden strength, rammed my foot into the wooden handle, breaking it in half.

Her mother’s eyes were like saucers as she stared at her, and Beth felt her knees start to buckle. “Doesn’t she look totally rad?” Zoey asked, resting her hand on Beth’s shoulder. “It took a lot of work, but we did it. We’re gonna swing by Sonic to get a drink on our way to the game, but we won’t be late, ‘kay Mr. Monroe?” “Beth?” her dad said, his eyebrows knit together. “You look amazing, Beth!” Evelyn gushed, coming over and taking her daughter by the arms. “Wow! Who’d have known you could clean up so nicely. You look like one of Tiffany’s little friends!”

Then, the White-Mouthed Talons Bear roared again and raised its paw to slap at the black light. The next second, a shocking scene emerged. With a swoosh, the black light pierced through the White-Mouthed Talons Bear's plan. Although it appeared just like a thin stick piercing through a man's palm at a glance, it actually hurt the monster. Next, blood splattered everywhere like a blood storm.

Bit by bit, they are getting drained to a point that their weapons vanished into thin air. The girl standing in front of them this time is different from the young girl they want to kill earlier. From being weak and fragile, she turned into a monster that anyone should be afraid of. Even her siblings, themselves. Hira looks at the attacker directly into his eyes. Fear is evident in his eyes. His hands were trembling in fear. With that, Hira smirks at him that sent shivers to his spine. “Die,” Hira whispers into the air. In an instant, everyone around her, aside from her siblings, are now gasping for air as if they were strangled to death. Soon, they start coughing blood and fell to the cold

I hate the look of my muscles all tense and stitched tight on my back. A lifetime of blows and bouncing back collects scars. I've had a lot of scalding showers, and bruises have become stretched and angry on me, causing pitted scars. There are no tears, but the groans come in multitude. As a monster, you learn never to accept pain. Pain only affects you if you let it. Black slacks. Black socks. Charcoal shoes are polished until they look like a crisp new apple skin. The shirt is deep forest green, which brings out the natural multiple hues of green in my eyes. Intentional. Gold flecks are juxtaposed in my iris.

His breaths come fast and sharp as his eyes flash an even deeper red. He stumbles forward, his claws slipping out as his body trembles with the effort of holding himself back. His chest rises and falls hard, his head pounding. He wants to scream; he wants to destroy everything around him. Kieran’s words repeat in his head. A monster. Kieran called him a monster. He wants nothing to do with a monster. His heart squeezes painfully. His vision blurs, and his control slips more and more. He punches the wall so hard it cracks, his knuckles bleeding instantly. His growl fills the room; it’s low and guttural.
