Book Stuck In Neutral Novels & Stories

Soon I had begun to take every book off the shelf, shaking the pages, just in case, it was in there. An hour passed and I was almost done with the entire bookshelf, but no sign of the damn card. Where the fuck was it? Another few books and I was on the last one, but that card was nowhere to be found. Did it maybe slip under? I placed another book down before looking at the shelf. It was large, made of solid oak. You could see that the bottom shelf was at least five inches off the ground but there was no panel I could take off. Slowly I tried to move the shelf, cursing when I realised it was bolted to the wall.

“Oh, uh… nothing, really.” “Doesn’t look like nothing,” I said with a polite smile. “Where did you find that?” The other boy shrugged. “Over there. On the table by the north stacks.” He pointed lazily toward an empty corner. I glanced in the direction he indicated. The table was bare. By the time I turned back, the students had already gathered their things and scurried off, leaving the book behind. Slowly, I pulled it closer. Because Old Neutero and Moss both enjoy reading all types of books.

I roared. They flinched at my tone and hurriedly got to their feet. I watched in silence as they hurried out of the room. But as the last man walked out, a book fell out of his sack and it caught my attention. "What's that?" I demanded. He looked up at me with wide eyes. "I— it's just a book. . ." He stuttered. I narrowed my eyes on him. What was a nerf like him doing in this space? How was he supposed to even catch my eye?
