She took a big breath and stared at the ceiling. Shaking her head. She climbed out while turning off the shower. Wrapping the towel around her. Making her way, out of the bathroom. Putting on more comfortable and loose clothes she sat on the bed. Taking out one of her favorite books, ‘The Cabinet of Curiosities (Prendergast, #3) Lincoln Child, Douglas Preston. She was currently on page fifty. It was just past eight. Tiredness stared to overtake her. Leaning back into her pillows she started to doze off. Her eyes started to close, and she fell asleep with her book in her hand.

I wipe out the tears, as I stood up and layed on the bed. Clutching the phone tightly as if it will make me feel more close to Aiden, I close my eyes, my mind taking me back to places where I feel most at peace. I was not interested in the book she was reading but in remembering how invested she was in the book that she did not even notice me coming behind her, maybe talking about the book might help her to relax. “What’s the book about,” I took my eyes off her to look at the book as I turned it around in my hand. “It is about all supernatural creatures that’s ever walked the earth,”

The first page drew me in immediately. Good writing, interesting characters, a compelling mystery. I lost myself in it. For the first time since arriving on this island, I felt my body start to relax. My mind stopped racing. The anxiety that had been coiled tight in my chest loosened just a little. This was good. This was what I needed.

Already, she could feel her racing mind and heart start to slow. She sat there, cross-legged, taking her time as she picked through one book at a time. She sneezed more than once, the dust getting to her, but she was happy. She felt an instant connection to her grandmother as she went through each book, feeling each one, running her hands along the spine, feeling the binding, the old paper. She began to relax, as her nightmares became more distant.
