The way he phrased it made it sound like he was going to make her a drink, but when they got downstairs, he added, “Go put the kettle on.”
“Do you want a cup of tea?” Alice asked Mike, feeling weird and unsure if it was normal. In her house, you asked everyone before boiling the kettle, but Alice had become aware that wasn’t common practise for everyone at a sleepover with her friend Danni, who was weirded out when Alice offered her stepdad a beverage.
“Yeah… thank you, chick,” Mike smiled widely. “Just milk, no sugar.”
Alice also felt weird making tea with no sugar. How could anyone possibly like it with no sugar? It was gross.
