I grip her shoulders, stopping her once again, and I look into her eyes as I say, "You are. You’re strong, Veronica. You’ve encountered difficulties, and you’ve overcome them."
"Thank you." She smiles, and my mouth lifts as I remove my hands from her shoulders.
"It melted," Veronica says, lifting her cup.
"Mine too," I tell her, and we laugh when our eyes meet before gulping down the melted ice cream. We throw the cups into a trash can by the road, and I slip my hands into my pockets as we continue to walk in silence.
