Elena stared at the figure before her, her own face, aged and hollow, eyes burning with cold fire. The Crystal of Light trembled in her hands, its glow flickering like a dying flame, casting dancing shadows across the ancient stone walls of the ritual chamber. The air around her grew thick, suffocating, pressing against her lungs with each labored breath. "You are the First Darkness," she breathed, the words tasting like ash in her mouth. Her voice was barely a whisper, but it echoed through the chamber like a thunderclap.

The shadow stepped forward. “I have returned.” Hope looked at Azrael. Then at the shadow. Azrael whispered: “Master…” Hope’s eyes widened. The creature smiled. “Let the final cycle begin.” And the entire First World went dark. TO BE CONTINUED… part 8

And for the first time— She saw it. Not darkness. Shapes. Countless shapes beneath the surface. Broken weapons. Fragments of armor. Bones. Thousands of them. A graveyard. No— A memory of war. Her breath slowed. “This place…” The figure nodded. “Is where it began.” A pulse moved through the ground. And suddenly— The darkness shifted. The void filled with shadows of the past. Figures. She was beginning to glow like a brilliant, newborn star in the middle of the dark castle, her presence casting blinding white light into every corrupted shadow of the Dark Moon territory. Duncan’s hands slipped from her face, his human limbs going completely limp as his vision began to fade into a silent, absolute blackness. He collapsed flat onto his back beside her, his chest completely still, his heart giving one final, weak human sound.

LENA: I woke up in fragments, wrapped by darkness. My consciousness slipped in and out like my body hadn't decided whether the morning was safe yet. The room was pitched black despite the small table clock beside the bed blinking 10:00am. The dim glow inside the clock was useless against the darkness, barely enough to outline my finger or to see the entire room.

Images from last night come crashing down on me, and my heart leaps. “Angelica!” I said excitedly as I turned to face my angel. The only problem was, when I looked at the naked body lying next to me, it wasn't my angelica; it was a stranger.
