The dawn broke reluctantly over the horizon, a pale, silvery light filtering through the mist that still clung stubbornly to the forest surrounding the ancient temple. Amelia Whitford rose slowly from the small bed of cloaks and sheepskin where she had been resting, the ache in her limbs a harsh reminder of the night’s battles. Her golden-flecked eyes reflected a new awareness, a recognition of the power that coursed relentlessly through her veins. She had awakened forces she barely understood, yet somehow, instinctively, she knew she could harness them.

Stepping onto the tiled floor, a sense of renewed energy coursed through me. With damp hair trailing down my back, I made my way back to the bedroom. But I felt a sudden jolt in my body as I got slippery and my foot slipped. As my foot met the floor, it betrayed me, sending me into an ungraceful descent. Time slowed as I flailed, gravity asserting its dominance. I slipped and fell down. The world blurred, and with a sharp crack, darkness claimed me. Awareness returned in fragments, my surroundings started to get clear.

I went to the club downtown and drowned my sorrow in alcohol. Reaching home, I went up to my room, but it wasn't mine, it was my future wife and the reason I broke up. I picked her up and brought her to my bed and I fell asleep soon after. The next morning I woke up with a headache and blurry memories of last night.

Chapter 40: A New Dawn The first thing Caden noticed when he woke was the warmth of the sunlight spilling through the thick curtains, casting soft golden rays across the room. It felt like a strange comfort after the cold darkness that had gripped him for so long. His body was still heavy with fatigue, his muscles aching, but there was a new kind of peace surrounding him. The panic, the fear, the doubt that had plagued him in his final moments—before everything had gone black—were gone.

Running from this darkness that surrounds his very being. He just wanted a way out of it, a small light to pull his dark soul out of this black hole. Suddenly sparks formed on his neck and started trailing towards his lower region. It felt as if someone was tracing cold iced sparks on his body. It was terrifying but at the same time, it felt pleasant. Darach opened his eyes only to be greeted by the sight of a wee being who was busy exploring his body while he laid there motionless. Instead of coming to a haze of pain, Darach had woken to a generous view of her breasts glancing over his chest.

Fifteen minutes wouldn’t kill anyone. Kit walked down the hallways of the now-dead quiet building. The tan walls lined with art pieces were comforting in a way. Kit could see why people came here to get the help they needed to be able to sleep correctly again. Kit hoped that she would be able to sleep again after she did this. It had been so long that the idea of sleep had become foreign. Something she had to do but never long enough. Never to dream and wake up refreshed. Never to wake up and be happy. The tug was too much on her heart. The pain had to go away.

Instead, her whole mind focused on the life aboard, and the emotions and vibes that were sent. "Lightness attracts the darkness." Her voice her hoarse. "Drawn from the fog to where new life blooms. To where new hope is budding. The dead are not always kind, young one...I pray that you seek this place, for your soul might depend upon it."

"Beware the darkness that soon will rise." She got pissed, angrily she asked him. "What does that suppose to mean? Why don't you just tell me what do you want?" He smiled at her and spoke again. "The time will tell you and teach you everything about your future soon." Now he was getting upon her nerves. That's all he says, she can't understand a single word. She yelled at him. "What do you mean?" He didn't say anything for a minute then he replied. "Beware the darkness that soon will rise." With that he was gone in a flash. She initially cursed him. She looked around, she was all alone in a forest.

We didn't let the darkness win. END OF VOLUME ONE

He was still standing there, like a silhouette in the distance, slowly fading into the fog. Some people were only meant to accompany you for a part of your journey, and our path together had long since come to an end. Now, being at peace and well was the best ending for us both. I turned forward, closed the car window, and looked ahead, my heart calm. The fog gradually lifted, sunlight spilling gently, and I knew this was the start of a new beginning.
