The center of the bridge collapsed into the abyss, leaving only jagged edges of broken stone on either side. Silence returned. Lucien bent over, hands on his knees. Instead, I nodded toward the box.

I took the last car with Rafa and two other ghosts who have hands that don’t flinch. “You coming?” Marco asked once, half grin and half dare.
