Absolutely awful. But Riele burst into laughter anyway, the tension in her chest breaking apart with each giggle. Jay grinned, triumphant, as if her joy were his greatest victory.

Una asked her, referring to the news on the TV. Liezel shook her head. “Nothing.” Will came back and Una briefly glanced at him and then quickly ran her fingers through her hair to smoothen the tangles that weren’t really there. Liezel laughed lightly at this. “What?” Una turned to her. She shrugged. “Nothing. I just remembered something funny.” “What is it?” It was Will who asked this time. “A dirty joke. Una wouldn’t want to hear it,” “Yes, I won’t.” Liezel pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind.
