The dim bar in Berlin's outskirts hummed with low chatter and clinking glasses. Coby Harlan, 42 now, nursed a whiskey at the corner table, his broad shoulders hunched under a worn leather jacket. Retirement had not softened him, scars from old wounds pulled tight across his knuckles, and his buzzed hair showed flecks of gray. Ten years since that botched op in Kabul, the one that cost lives and shattered his world. He came here on a whim, chasing ghosts, not expecting to find one staring back.

Easter frowned trying to think but then shook her head negatively. "An impasta!" With that, they both started laughing making Sarah stare at the man dumbfounded. She heard this joke trillion times and she was sure this man must have used it many times as well but he was still laughing like a hyena. Darren looked up finding the woman he wanted to meet standing there with ridiculed expression openly telling him how lame his joke was. Sarah turned away from him grabbing the bags but watching her struggling with them he chuckled lowly standing up and making Easter look at him.

"If I hadn't looked, how would I have known that the person my fiance loves the most is his ex-girlfriend?" A flicker of guilt flashed through Jared's eyes, but he immediately blustered to cover it up. "It's just a joke between friends! Must you make such a big deal out of it? I swear, you're getting more and more unreasonable every day!" With that, he haphazardly stuffed the gift boxes back into his suitcase, picked it up, and stormed off to the guest room. All that was left was that cheap pair of pearl earrings lying alone on the floor.

“I have a meeting with your father.” My thumb jerks in the direction of the snow. The roads should be very difficult to drive through right now. “Unless Crawford is heaven and you’re rushing to get there, I’d say stay off the roads for now.” Then I chuckle to myself, laughing at my own joke. “But of course Crawford isn’t heaven, there’s no correlation between a devil and heaven.” Then I crack up at my own joke. Asher gives me a blank look. “Oh god, that’s a good one. Robin would love it.” I say searching for my phone to send him my top tier joke.

"Cardboard and suffering?" "Exactly." Jonathan’s eyes lit up, happy to see even a tiny smile. "And if that doesn’t work, I’ve got jokes. Why did the painter go to jail?" Lucy shook her head, still wiping tears. "Because he was framed!" A surprised giggle escaped her. "Oh no… that’s actually terrible." "I’ve got more," he warned with a playful grin. "What do you call a fake noodle?" "…What?" "An impasta!"

Sarah wasn't even sure what the word 'trio' meant, but she didn't want to seem dumb so she nodded slowly nonetheless. "Great! So how about I tell you some hilarious jokes about your mate over there?" He jerked his head in Damon's direction and finally took a glance over at him. But the hazel eyes that met his were totally different from the hazel eyes he had looked into not too long ago....these ones were deadly.

You got jokes, that much I can give you.” Grinning, I finally turn around and take a step to the side, careful not to be spartan kicked into the hole, in case I manage to annoy the guy or press the wrong buttons.
