CHAPTER 17 After falling asleep he fell prey to some terrifying dreams. He came woke up well past midnight, trying to shake a vision of a gigantic demon, monstrosity crashing through the house on which he was a mate. At the sound of Matendechere screaming and the house falling down on them with a loud thud, heavy stones falling on them and crushing his fingers.

What’s more horrifying about the dream is the possibility of something like that happening. “I. . . .,” I try to speak amidst crying. “I had a bad dream.” I broke out again. My hands sink into my hair, roughening it as I try to get the image of my battered face out of my head. There was so much blood. . . My blood. I think I’m going crazy. “In my dream I died!” I sob. “Brutally and I don’t want to-“ Just then, warm arms envelop my body, pulling me into an embrace.

Feeling the weight of jet lag, I lay down to close my eyes for a few minutes, but those few minutes turned into two nightmarish hours. I dreamed of Robyn and Grandfather back home, but Grandfather had a set of horns growing out of his head in my dream. That and yellowed, decaying teeth. Robyn was smaller, younger. More vulnerable. And even though I was there, it seemed as though I wasn't. I was able to watch, but I couldn't reach out and touch her, and she couldn't hear me when I spoke, when I told her to run because Grandfather was stalking her through the house.

This type of agony? Healing is so much easier with a wolf. Callie gave me a special broth to help ease the pain and to help me sleep. It tasted like ass, but it did help. The broth gave me strange dreams, though. Fantastical dreams where I was doing really weird stuff. In one dream, I was Slade, wandering through the desert, parched and dying of dehydration. In another, I was a dragon, sailing through the sky, looking for a pile of red jewels on the beach below. A third dream had me fighting a horde of trolls with vegetables as weapons. I brandished cucumbers and carrots and celery sticks, trying to fend off the ugly trolls.

It was pleasant at first, until it wasn't. I had a dream. One I was never supposed to have. One that only meant trouble whenever I had it back then. I was feeding off of someone. I'd split their wrist with my claw and was sucking from it. It was the best meal I'd had in years. Despite being a dream, the blood tasted real. Smelt reel. It was juicy, and I could hear every sound I made while I sucked off of it. The person's pained moan was quite obvious too. Everything was heightened.

I jumped, my foot catching a loose stone and sending me falling hard on my behind. I could hear the sound of an animal growling filling my ears, so close I could feel its breath on my face. I looked up slowly, my dress drenched with sweat and my eyes met with two red blazing orbs. “Haa, I didn't know I had fallen asleep already. It's a dream,” I mumbled to myself as the creature bared its fangs and snarled at me, heavy saliva dropping on my cheek. “It's a dream, it's a dream,” I thought as the creature sank its teeth into my arm and my sight went dark.

The image of the child stayed sharp in her mind, and the whispers… they felt too real. By the third night, the dreams began to change. The moon in her vision cracked open like glass, and a dark mist poured out of it, wrapping around the child. When she jolted awake this time, she could still hear the faint echo — Draven’s name, carried on the air like a warning.

Leaning down, he licked me like I was the most delectable dessert he had ever tasted. My alarm sounded shrill and loud right at seven. I rolled over and reached for my phone. My dreams had been fitful and erratic that night with the few hours of sleep I got. They were filled with Teddy from yesterday. At one point it had gotten so bad with one dream, him holding me down and devouring my pussy like it was fresh made crème brûlée, that I had to fish out my toy from the nightstand just to get myself to relax again. Making sure that the toy was back in its drawer- I got up to get a shower and to get ready. Mike and the lawyer were due soon.

Then her eyes rolled back, and she collapsed, a limp doll in the carnage. And from the gore, the man’s evil laughter echoed, high and triumphant. A transparent, spectral version of him rose from the pieces I had made, staring me down as if he had won. I was done. I had to get out. I tried to withdraw, to force myself awake, but the dream fought back. It didn’t just shift—it fractured. The burning city imploded, the sound of screams replaced by a wet, tearing sound. The scent of blood was violently replaced by the thick, intoxicating scent of her arousal.

It's like they're still alive and all of this was some terrible dream. A loud crash wakes me.
